POSITION OVERVIEW
This is a position in FAFCO’s engineering department to aid in design, testing and analysis of new and existing products and manufacturing equipment. Job requires high levels of hands-on work to rapidly create and test prototype solar components, setup and run automated tests, perform troubleshooting and general problem solving for solar systems and components. Innovative and creative abilities are required. Ideal candidate will have excellent hands on experience in plumbing, electrical, carpentry, machining, and computer skills including Microsoft Office and Solidworks. A degree is not required. Future engineers are welcome!
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
- Assist in assembling product prototypes and set up testing apparatus.
- Perform testing and document results with minimal supervision.
- Execute tests using data logging and acquisition software.
- Troubleshoot test equipment including sensors, pumps, meters, etc.
- Communicates well via email, phone and in person.
- Represent FAFCO with a high level of integrity and professionalism.
- Supports and maintains excellent working relationships with staff.
- Adhere to FAFCO policies and support management decisions and goals in a positive, professional manner.
- Produce Solidworks models/drawings/designs of non-critical components
ADDITIONAL RESPONSIBILITIES
- Assist production in setting up new equipment or processes
- Assist maintenance in resolving critical line down situations
- Help maintain engineering drawings and documentation
- Maintain engineering work spaces and tools and keep them in an orderly manner

- REPORTS TO: Engineering Manager
- Work areas are inside and outside in an environment with high background noise.

PHYSICAL ACTIVITIES REQUIRED TO PERFORM ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
SITTING / STANDING / WALKING:
- Approximately 80% of time is spent moving around work areas. Balance of time (approximately 20%) is spent working at a desk.
SPEAKING / HEARING:
- Ability to effectively communicate with co-workers, customers, and outside agencies, by telephone and in person.
VISION:
- Ability to effectively use a computer screen and interpret printed materials, memos, and other appropriate paperwork.
LIFTING / CARRYING:
- Ability to transport up to 50 pounds of supplies and equipment.
STOOPING / KNEELING:
- Ability to access supplies and equipment.
REACHING / HANDLING:
- Ability to input information into computer systems and retrieve and work with appropriate paperwork, supplies and equipment.

QUALIFICATIONS
- Thorough computer skills using Windows and Microsoft Office applications.
- Ability to apply mathematical logic (Algebra, Geometry, Trigonometry).
- Technical background.
- Experience with electrical, plumbing, and carpentry.
- Machining skills including mill & lathe work.
- CAD experience in Solidworks or other applicable programs.
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE
- High school diploma (or equivalent) required.
- Must possess a valid California driver’s license.
- Experience in a technical field (including academic) preferred.
Job Types: Full-time, Part-time
Pay: $18.00 - $22.00 per hour
