Job Summary:

We are seeking an energetic self-starter who understands what it means to work in partnership with community to identify and elevate smart solutions to tough policy problems. This role will work closely with Fahe’s advocacy team:

  1. Helping to lead state level coalitions in developing targeted advocacy campaigns
  2. Supporting our regional and state efforts to close the digital divide, and
  3. Assisting in the planning and execution of some upcoming events that will connect our members to decision makers in the national policy landscape of rural America.

The right person will be a team player, exceptional facilitator, communicator, researcher and writer who enjoys translating big ideas into tangible solutions and strategies.

Essential Duties and Functions:

Outreach and Organizing

  • Under direction of senior staff, work with Fahe members, coalition partners and others to make demonstrable progress in furthering Fahe members advocacy objectives related to housing, community development, workforce and digital equity
  • Strong community organizing capacity- able to identify, engage and activate diverse communities and coalitions
  • Able to support senior staff in the facilitation of meetings (in person and virtual) on a variety of topics, moving participants to alignment and agreement
  • Able to, with support, identify advocacy targets and develop advocacy strategies and campaigns
  • Coordinates Fahe members and coalition partners to take action on policy advocacy campaign strategies
  • Thinks creatively to identify solutions to big public policy/community challenges and develops engaging public facing campaigns to solve those challenges
  • Represents Fahe favorably with members, coalition partners and external allies
  • Attends and reports on briefings, hearings, coalition meetings and conference calls as needed
  • Support the planning and execution of Fahe state and federal Hill Days and other externally facing advocacy events

 

Research and Analysis

  • Conducts research and analysis to assist in carrying out both policy staff and self-initiated projects.
  • Helps develop content for topic specific one-pagers, talking points, issue briefs, related charts and visuals, infographics, and presentations to be used with selected internal or external audiences
  • Assists advocacy staff in the development and implementation of major new policy initiatives and planning and coordinating policy related workshops and meetings at the state, regional, and federal levels.
  • Able to convey and communicate complex ideas, in writing and verbally, to both internal and external audiences

 

Requirements for this position include:

  • Passion for community development and systems change to ensure no American is left behind in pursuit of the American dream.
  • Self-starter who is able to work independently to achieve programmatic goals.
  • A team player – able to work productively with both an internal team and external coalition partners.
  • Strong written and oral communication skills.
  • Experience facilitating groups to achieve consensus or shared understanding of a topic or strategy.
  • Comfort navigating a dynamic work day- the activities, duties and outputs will vary day to day and week to week.  Similarly, the types of campaigns or activities this individual will manage will vary state by state
  • Ability to travel at least 25% of the time.
  • Knowledge or direct experience in community led policy advocacy
  • Must have drivers license and ability to use own car (with reimbursement) or old enough to rent a vehicle for regional travel.

 

Preferred Education and Experience:

  • This position is an ideal fit for someone who has experience in community organizing or campaigns.
  • BA is preferred but not required, particularly if candidate has strong work history in community organizing or advocacy
