Fairview Health Services is hiring an ECMO Specialist to join our ECMO department at our M Health Fairview University of Minnesota Medical Center – East Bank location in Minneapolis, MN!
The ECMO Specialist works in conjunction with the bedside nurse to ensure that the patient on mechanical circulatory/ECMO support has adequate oxygenation, perfusion, corrects for accurate acid base balance and hemodynamic stability within ordered parameters, and maintains other parameters as ordered by the internally credentialed ECMO provide. They will assist ECMO Leadership in the collection/review of quality improvement initiatives, using internal and external data to benchmark with the goal of establishing best practice
They perform the required technical skills with efficiency, accuracy and safety while anticipating, troubleshooting, and managing crisis according to policies and procedures.
Schedule: The ECMO Specialist will be working a 0.01 FTE (casual hours). The shift length will be 12 hours on the day/evening/night rotating shift.

Responsibilities
As an ECMO Specialist, you will be responsible for:
- Providing Mechanical Circulatory and Extracorporeal Life Support to patients of all ages.
- Responsible for all aspects of assembling, priming, maintaining, monitoring, and troubleshooting mechanical ECMO equipment and circuits from set-up and throughout the management period. (ie: ultrafiltration, continues A-V hemodialysis, etc.).
- Participating in the evaluation of new equipment and implementation of new technology.
- Mentoring and training of new ECMO Specialists and ECMO trained
- Collaborating with the physician and healthcare team in the delivery of patient care.
- Communicating effectively with all health care team members.
- Demonstrating the ability to deliver care to reflect developmental level and cultural differences of population served.
- Following and maintaining knowledge of all relevant laws, regulation, policies, procedures and standards.
- Encouraging a culture of improvement, efficiency and innovative thinking.

Qualifications
Required Qualifications (2 Tracks Available):
- Respiratory Therapist (RT) Track:
- Education
- Graduate from a CoARC or JCRTE approved program in Respiratory Therapy and a Bachelor’s Degree.
- Experience
- 3 years critical care experience in an acute setting
- License/Certification/Registration
- Basic Life Support (BLS) certification
- Respiratory Therapist License issued by the Minnesota Board of Medical Practice and Registered Respiratory Therapist (RRT) certification issued by the National Board for Respiratory Care (NBRC)
- Education
- Registered Nurse (RN) Track:
- Education
- Bachelor of Science in Nursing
- Experience
- 3 years critical care experience in an acute setting
- License/Certification/Registration
- Basic Life Support (BLS) certification
- Minnesota RN License
- Education
Preferred Qualifications:
- Experience
- 5 years critical care experience in an acute setting
- Previous ECMO Specialist training
- License/Certification/Registration
- Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS) certification
- Neonatal Resuscitation Program (NRP) certification
- Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) certification
Additional Requirements:
- Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS) and Neonatal Resuscitation Program (NRP) certification required within 1 year of hire
- Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) certification required within 1 year of hire
