Senior Accountant

Overview

JOB SUMMARY:

The Senior Accountant is responsible for assisting the Controller with maintaining financial records, bank reconciliations, and project controls.

This is a full-time position. Days and hours of work are flexible within normal hours of operation, Monday-Friday 8:00am-5:00pm. Extended hours of work may be required as job duties demand, as approved by Controller.

LOCATION: Anchorage, AK

SCHEDULE: M-F, 8am-5pm

Responsibilities

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS: 

• Prepare general ledger account and bank account reconciliations
• Maintain, organize, and update financial records
• Manage payment for invoices received. Audit and verify invoices, including verifying invoice details, approval signatures and appropriate cost codes. Route all approved invoices to accounts receivable for prompt billing, when necessary
• Develop working knowledge of agreements and contracts, as well as provide rate validation for billing.
• Maintain monthly profitability reports for multiple projects
• Uses data and facts in order to make day-to-day decisions and involves others as needed. Recognizes what might be a problem and informs those who can correct it
• Identifies steps needed in order to carry out work as required
• Assist with the development and improvement of accounting policies and procedures
• Prepare, post, and review journal entries
• Meet deadlines, organize work materials, and manage time effectively
• Develop and manipulate complex Excel spreadsheets

Work Environment:

• This job operates in a clerical office setting. This role routinely uses standard office equipment such as computers, phones, photocopiers, filing cabinets, fax machines and scanners

Physical Demands:

• This is largely a sedentary role; however, some filing is required. This would require the ability to lift files, open filing cabinets and bend or stand as necessary

Qualifications

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: 

• Bachelor's degree in accounting or finance
• Proficient in Excel, Word, and Adobe
• Strong verbal and written communication skills
• 3-5 years experience related to accounting, finance, or related field (2 years of experience can be substituted with a bachelor’s degree in accounting)
• Experience using computerized accounting system
• Working knowledge of accounting standards and processes

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:

• Experience using Oracle NetSuite
• Public accounting experience
• Project accounting experience
• Payroll experience
• Consolidation and financial reporting experience
