As the Summer School Nurse you will enhance the educational process by the modification or removal of health-related barriers to learning and by promotion of an optimal level of wellnesOur smaller learning environment allows staff to create meaningful relationships with students.
As the School Nurse, your day will include:
-Establishing, reviewing, revising and recommending policy and procedures for a comprehensive school health program, including emergency and first aid procedures, medication administration protocol, safety measures, student and staff health services, health education
-Collecting and interpreting data of each student including growth, developmental and health history
-Performing vision, hearing, height/weight, emotional, nutritional and immunization status and physical assessments
-Making nursing diagnosis for each student based on health and educational status
-Identifying interdisciplinary approach to care including, staffing, meetings with classroom teacher and parent, Committee on Special Education meetings as needed, informal staff consultations
-Coordinating and implementing consultations with developmental specialist and home-school doctor
-Administering prescribed medication to all students as needed and provides a written list of which students receive medication and time of administration
-Administering first aid and tends to acutely ill students and faculty
-Maintaining health records on each student
-Making referrals to approach agencies to meet health needs of students and their families
-All other duties as assigned
Qualifications for the role:
-Valid New York State Registered Nursing license
-Must be able to respond quickly to emergency situations in the school
-Understand complex principles and techniques to make independent judgment
-Experience with emotionally disturbed and/or learning-disabled students preferred
-Knowledge of school health programs such as vision, hearing screening, immunization requirements
-Maintain records and prepare reports
-Valid driver license preferred
Competitive Salary starting at $35.30 per hour (actual rate is dependent on internal equity and past experience)
Shift: Monday through Friday 7:35 AM – 2:35 PM
This position is a Temporary 6-week Summer Session position, position starts July 1st, 2024 and runs through August 9th, 2024.
