JOB TITLE:  Thrift Store Receiving Supervisor                                                      DEPARTMENT:  MHC

REPORTS TO:  Executive Director/Thrift Store Manager

BENEFITS:  Full time position (32 hour); Health, Dental & Vision Insurance, Vacation/Sick Leave, Simple IRA, Non-Exempt

PRIMARY OBJECTIVE OF THE JOB:

  1. The Thrift Store Receiving Supervisor will be responsible for maintaining organization and ensure back rooms of the store are organized and clutter-free, with a focus on processing clothing donations. The receiving supervisor plays a crucial role in maintaining the efficiency, safety, and maintaining a positive atmosphere of the backroom operations.

Responsibilities:

  1. Restocking and Inventory Management:
    1. Restack the intake room regularly to maintain order.
    2. Replace full off-season totes with new labeled ones.
    3. Monitor supplies and add them to the shopping list when running low.
  2. Safety and Cleanliness:
    1. Keep the floor clear of tripping hazards.
    2. Cut down excess boxes and dispose of cardboard when necessary.
    3. Take out trash and maintain cleanliness in the backroom, kitchen, and bathroom areas.
  3. Training and Supervision:
    1. Train new volunteers and employees in backroom procedures and standards.
    2. Monitor and advise workers on tasks, quality standards, and efficiency.
  4. Customer Service and Communication:
    1. Assist donors with questions, needs, and donations with a friendly and grateful attitude.
    2. Act as a go-to person for workers, volunteers, and donors, addressing questions and concerns promptly.
  5. Collaboration and Coordination:
    1. Coordinate with relevant community partners (e.g., metal and broken electronic section, JFA volunteers, Hope Food Pantry) to manage overflowing areas and donations effectively.
    2. Ensuring actions and behavior reflect the values and reputation of the organizations they represent, emphasizing the importance of professionalism, courtesy, and teamwork in all interactions.
  6. Support and Encouragement:
    1. Encourage and support employees and volunteers, fostering a positive work environment.
    2. Assist with heavy boxes and bags as needed to ensure smooth operations.

Requirements:

  • Previous experience in a retail or warehouse environment preferred.
  • Strong organizational skills and attention to detail.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to work collaboratively and manage multiple tasks efficiently.
  • Commitment to representing Melissa’s Hope Chest and Family Crisis Centers professionally and positively.
