Job Title: Barber Program-Instructor
Place of Performance:
FCI McKean 6975 Route 59 Lewis Run, PA 16738 in the Education Department and Inmate Barber Shop.
Hours of operation: A session is defined as one (1) hour. The CAndidate will provide an estimated 40 sessions of instructional time and program oversight per week for an estimated ten students.Scope of Work:
The Candidate is responsible for instruction of the Vocational Training (VT)- Barber Program for an estimated ten (10) inmates/students per year at the FCI McKean.
Qualification:
- licensed Barber Teacher/Instructor as recognized by the Pennsylvania State Board of Barber Examiners.
- 2 years’ experience in providing barbering instruction.
Position Duties:
Duties include the following:
- Assisting with the overall set up and implementation of the VT Barber Program to include the obtaining and maintaining of a barber school license for the Barber program at FCI McKean.
- Developing a curriculum, daily lesson plans and assessments for the program. Hands-on work will comprise 60% of the curriculum as required by the Pennsylvania State Board of Barber Examiners. Hands-on work will include providing barbering services to the inmate population.
- Expertly providing the 1250 hours of direct instruction and oversight for inmate students in the VT Barber Program and ensuring student readiness for the theory and practical skills exams, which inmate students are required to pass to obtain the Pennsylvania barber licenses.
- Effectively communicating and coordinating with state and licensing board entities to ensure the timely processing and follow through of all inmate barber candidate paperwork and documentation.
- Planning, organizing, and coordinating mock job fairs for barber students in order for the students to prepare to obtain gainful employment as barbers upon being released from prison. This includes recruiting local barber business entities to participate in mock job interviews with barber students.
