What are the responsibilities and job description for the Multimedia Producer position at Fargo Public Schools?
- Generates ideas, writes, researches, coordinates, and distributes gathered information through video production to showcase Fargo Public Schools’ programs, schools, staff and events.
- Meets with end users/project requesters, administrators, and staff to assess needs and create planning documents for videos, including storylines or scripts.
- Collaborates with the Communications Department staff, department leads, principals and staff to write, edit and finalize video scripts.
- Recruits talent or interview subjects if needed for video storylines.
- Plans for any needed video details including design effects, voiceover, music, etc. as needed for the desired message and video effectiveness.
- Produces internal- and external-facing stories to effectively distill and package information in a compelling and easy-to-understand manner.
- Researches and schedules the locations for video capturing on Fargo Public School school campuses, District buildings, or locations of Fargo Public Schools events.
- Storyboards the video and develops a shot list.
- Captures studio-quality photographs and video at Fargo Public Schools’ buildings and events.
- Manages and oversees all technical aspects of video recording including the maintenance and handling of video equipment, including but not limited to video camera, audio equipment and lighting.
- Builds and maintains a library of video of the programs, staff, and students of Fargo Public Schools
- Attends and covers on- and off-campus events and programs as needed to produce compelling multimedia content that supports marketing initiatives and institutional priorities
- Completes the creation and editing of professional short and long form video productions that accurately represent the educational programs and Strategic Initiatives of the Fargo Public Schools
- Manages and oversees all technical aspects of video editing, including producing high quality, professional-sounding voiceovers that may involve sourcing and utilizing external voice talent.
- Produces supplementary materials, including motion graphics and tease videos to drive interest in projects.
- Follows Fargo Public School’s brand guidelines.
- Optimize videos for SEO to drive traffic and track relevant analytics data to gauge the performance of each video/video series.
- Responsible for uploading video material to the web or other platforms
- Assists in creating and executing communications plans for the Communications Department through the development of video projects.
- Actively participates in team meetings with the Communications Department and other departments as needed within the Fargo Public Schools, along with one-on-one checkpoints with the Communications Officer
- Participates in various District committees and working groups as directed.
- Monitors storytelling trends and provides technical expertise regarding the communication industry to ensure content and style are contemporary, while maintaining conformity with established brand guidelines.
- A Bachelor of Arts degree in the areas of film, video, production, communications, marketing or public relations or related field
- Possess a portfolio of previous work that displays an ability to turn an idea or concept into a visual piece.
- Possess strong written and oral communication skills.
- Working knowledge of the Microsoft Office suite, SharePoint/Office 365, design application programs (i.e., Adobe Creative Suite)
- Proficient handing video production equipment, including operating video cameras, microphones, and lighting.
- Proficient in Final Cut Pro X, Adobe After Effects, or similar programs
- Superior knowledge of video shooting and editing and different filming styles and techniques
- Working knowledge of social media and online platforms, including but not limited to Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, Hoot Suite, Blackboard (website and mass notification systems), Word Press, and online blogs.
- Must be a detail-oriented person with exceptional organizational and time management skills.
- Must be able to work in a team environment.
- Ability to collaborate well in cross-functional teams and complete projects across a large organization.
- Ability to maintain confidentiality and discretion.

Position Purpose
Under the direction of the Communications Officer, researches, develops, creates, writes, shoots, voices and edits video materials and photographic productions for marketing and communications materials in collaboration with leaders and in alignment with District initiatives. Works closely with the leaders of programs and schools to develop media in alignment with the communications and marketing strategies of the Fargo Public Schools and to advance the goals of Fargo Public Schools. Creates original, unique, concise, and engaging long and short format video content for a variety of platforms, including use on District communications channels.
