What are the responsibilities and job description for the Appraiser position at Farm Credit Council?
The Appraiser is responsible for performing all functions required to provide accurate appraisals of the value of real property and, in some cases, personal property, involved in Farm Credit lending. This includes maintaining market value trends, completing market surveys, and collecting and analyzing real estate sales information to support appraisals and asset valuation. This position also requires participation in fee appraisal services.
- Conduct appraisals of real property to determine value using cost, sales comparison, and income approaches. Conduct appraisals and/or inspections of personal property.
- Make construction progress inspections to determine adherence to plans and specifications.
- Compile and analyze market, sales, rent, and economic information and other data used in the development of appraisals. Research and document commodity costs and prices. Prepare appraisal reports. Develop industry appraisal information and guidelines.
- Establish and maintain a high level of customer service with internal and external customers by providing ongoing communication, coordination, and assistance throughout the appraisal process. Effectively communicate values and other appraisal/evaluator information to customers and co-workers.
- Maintain knowledge of basic products and services offered by the Association in order to respond to questions asked by customers.
- Significant travel is required.
Knowledge, Skills & Abilites:
- Excellent proficiency using a financial calculator, electronic spreadsheets, word processing, e-mail, and database software. Preferably Microsoft Excel, Word, and Outlook.
- Understanding of federal, state, and local laws affecting real estate and chattel values.
- Ability to interact professionally, effectively, and positively with all levels of employees, management, and vendors.
- Proven capabilities for all categories of agricultural properties.
- Demonstrated planning, problem solving and organization skills and attention to detail.
- The ability to make sound decisions within delegated authorities and time pressures.
- Demonstrated proficiency in meeting deadlines.
- Knowledge of Applied Ag economic theory, farm practices, soil types, irrigation, engineering, and construction techniques, and maintenance costs associated with typical properties in the area.
- Experience in agricultural lending, appraisal, and real estate principles and practices.
- Demonstrated planning, problem solving and organization skills and attention to detail.
- Must balance department efficiency and promotion of customer service initiatives.
- The ability to make sound decisions within delegated authorities and time pressures.
- Exceptional verbal, written, analytical, persuasive, and interpersonal skills.
- Must be able to maintain a high level of confidentiality with sensitive business information.
Desired Qualifications:
- BA/BS degree in agricultural production, agricultural business, business administration, or equivalent.
- California Certified General Real Estate Appraiser License.
- A minimum of 3 years of appraisal experience.
