Plant Superintendent
The Plant Superintendent will manage Production team members and oversee daily operations of the processing of product that is aligned with the organization’s overall strategy. Will identify workplace hazards through workplace inspections, assess risks and conduct job safety analysis, and ensures team members are appropriately trained. Deliver task specific training as required. Observe, mentor, coach and develop team members ensuring job capabilities, competencies and program/policy application and use. This plant will run 24 hours per day, year-round.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
- Direct, coordinate, and oversee the day to day operations of the production to ensure quality and meet monthly production goals.
- Oversee and schedule staff to include: work assignments/rotations, employee training, employee PTO, overtime assignment, and back-up for absent employees, ensuring performance in accordance with company policies and procedures.
- Collect, analyze, and report production documents on a weekly, monthly, and yearly basis to Plant Manager.
- Develop, write, and control documentation related to work instruction, procedures, or any other pertinent documentation related to the production department.
- Recommend capital improvements, and other process improvements as needed.
- Develop corrective and preventative actions.
- Work closely with Plant Manager to complete any production related issues at the facilities.
- Recommend or initiate personnel actions such as hires, promotions, transfers, discharges, and corrective/attendance counseling.
- Assist Plant Manager and Human Resources to resolve personnel problems, complaints or grievances.
- Accurately report findings to the necessary personnel and complete any necessary documentation.
- Conduct staff performance reviews.
- Counsel and train staff about work related-issues and assist them to correct job-skill deficiencies.
- Promote team development through encouragement, and by building mutual trust, respect, and cooperation among team members.
- Follow and strictly enforce OSHA, MSHA, and Company’s safety regulations and guidelines.
- Inspect and monitor work areas, examine tools and equipment and provide employee safety training to prevent, detect, and correct unsafe conditions or violations of procedures and safety rules.
- Manage necessary safety documentation.
- Responsible for other tasks within the employees’ training and skills as directed by the supervisor and/or Plant Manager.
- Assist with miscellaneous production tasks as directed by Plant Manager. Including housekeeping, basic labor tasks, etc.
- Working in a physically demanding environment.
- Some travel may be required.
Requirements
This position requires climbing, bending, stooping, walking, sitting, and lifting up to 75 lbs. Must have a valid driver’s license.
EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE:
- Bachelor’s degree in a related field is beneficial.
- 5 years’ experience in a manufacturing, mining, or aggregate environment is preferred.
- Knowledge of quality control and lab process and procedures.
- 3 years’ supervisory experience.
- Experience motivating, developing and directing people as they work.
- Experience monitoring and assessing the performance of those who report to you in order to make improvements or take corrective action.
- Excellent interpersonal and communication skills are required.
- Highly proficient in Microsoft Excel, Word, and PowerPoint, as daily collection, analysis, and reporting of data is required.
