Summary
The Product Manager is an expert on our products and is accountable to ensure they remain relevant in the market while responding to evolving customer needs. While partnering with Underwriting, Claims, Marketing, and Actuary, the Product Manager ensures our products are designed and priced to achieve our profitability and revenue goals.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities including the following. Other duties may be assigned.
- Competitive environment – Continuously update knowledge of new and existing products relative to our competitors including pricing, rating factors, coverages, etc.
- Market Demographics – Continuously update demographic data in our operating territories. Identify and monitor customer needs and expectations of our policies. Use this information to design and enhance our products.
- Product Compliance – Ensure all existing and new products are compliant with state laws and statutes.
- Product Life Cycle – Gather data and solicit input to create a long-term product strategy and roadmap while setting expectations of how the strategy will evolve over time. Strategy should address geography, rating territories, coverages, and changes in rate, rule and form.
- Rate, Rule, Form – Maintain strong working-knowledge of rate, rule, and form. Understand how rating bureaus are evolving products and how that integrates with product strategy. Analyze, assess, and implement bureau changes as appropriate. Understand how rating methodologies are designed in the pricing of our products.
- Maintain Quality Control – Partner with the EPMO (Enterprise Project Management Office) and other departments to make sure projects are implemented (1) in accordance with project plans and (2) as filed and approved with the state.
- Product Goals - Partner with the organization to ensure products achieve growth, performance and rate adequacy goals.
- Form Ownership – In partnership with forms experts, claims, and underwriting, ensure all coverage forms (new and revisions to existing) are written as intended and interpreted correctly.
- Communication – Ensure all product changes are communicated to key stakeholders in a timely manner. This includes providing initial drafts and external communications regarding all product changes.
- Systems – Have an expert understanding of how our products are processed through internal and external systems. Use this knowledge to (1) train external and internal stakeholders about our products and product changes and (2) work with the EPMO to implement change.
- Complete annual product reviews.
Education and/or Experience
- A Bachelor's Degree and related experience is preferred.
- Require a thorough knowledge of P&C Insurance with an emphasis on Underwriting and on products for the designated line of business.
- The CPCU Designation is highly recommended.
