Job Summary

  • This position is responsible in developing and executing on the Claims Data Strategy, Advanced Analytics strategies for the Claims department to improve accuracy, speed, and compliance through Automation.
  • Also responsible for leading the staffing forecasting function for Claims in partnership with Finance to ensure optimal staffing and expense management.
  • Supports the Claims Shared Services LOB for business intelligence analytics and reporting needs to ensure consistency and drive favourable business outcomes.

Business Accountabilities

  • Provides Strategic direction and leadership to the Claims department around analytics, predictive modelling, automation, and data management.
  • Develop, design and deploy the vision, infrastructure, capabilities and multi-year roadmap for managing the analytics and automation capability within Claims.
  • Build and operationalize analytical models that detects fraud, identifies recovery opportunities, predict Claims outcomes, optimize operations, and predict customer preferences for Claims services while ensuring compliance with all state and federal laws and regulations.
  • Provide business intelligence analytics and reporting to Shared Services among other lines of business.
  • Serve as trusted advisor to others within the executive leadership team in the creation and deployment of insights to inform and activate line of business strategies. This includes strong communication skills in translating models, validation and key findings to executive leadership and stakeholder presentations.
  • Represents Claims leadership on the Data & Analytics Hub, the Generative AI Council and to share and collaborate around strategy, best practices, and bring innovative ideas with the enterprise data science community.
  • Identify leading innovative and emerging technologies that can provide positive return on investment for Claims operations, execute on opportunities, and monitor results for desired outcome.
  • Engaging and partnering with vendors to provide industry leading innovative Claims operational tools.

Essential Job Functions

  • Develop a Claims Analytics, Data and Automation Strategic Vision
  • Build a roadmap and operational plan to achieve Strategic Visions
  • Continuously scan the global environment for technologies and processes that will provide Farmers Claims a superior competitive advantage.
  • Lead the Claims Analytics team in driving strategy by building and deploying operational models that improves Claims performance
  • Identify Claims business problems and opportunities and build solutions with predictive models.
  • Evaluate all vendor predictive model and advanced analytics solutions.
  • Enable analytics driven claims process changes, and quantify the actuarial impact as needed
  • Continue to find ways/tools to improve modeling efficiency in order to maximize the output of the team
  • Develop processes and controls around model creation and calibration of model vs actual results (introduce true A/B testing)
  • Collaborate with IT and other analytics groups to improve data availability and ease for use for faster and more accurate analyses
  • Provide statistical analyses, and conduct in-depth study as situation arises
  • Collaborate with the Shared Services leadership team regarding business intelligence analytics and reporting to driver operational excellence
  • Lead the workforce forecasting team to ensure staffing models are developed that lead to optimal expense management while taking business trends into consideration (volume/attrition/etc.)

Education Requirements

  • Bachelor of Science in Math or Science or equivalent work experience required. Masters or Phd in Math or Science preferred.

Knowledge/Technical Skills

  • Property and Casualty Operations (Pricing, Reserving, Underwriting and Claims).
  • Developing and executing business strategies.
  • Executive level communications.
  • Data science (ie. predictive modelling, machine learning, etc.).
  • Building and programming automated tools.
  • Building Predictive models.
  • Inspiring and leading professional staff.
  • Collaborative skills to work or lead joint projects with other internal departments and external organizations to drive strategy.

Experience Requirements

  • Combined 7 years experience in Actuarial and Advance Analytics.
  • 5 years working with senior executive management partnering in solving complex business problems.
  • 5 years of experience leading a high-performing team of data analysts.

Travel And Other Requirements

  • Partial travel required to visit field operations, vendors, industry groups, and special projects.
