Our Accountant is an entry level position that will build on your academic successes by developing strong accountancy and decision-making skills that are critical to a successful Accounting career. This position provides valuable insurance experience and a complete understanding of the accounting processes, such as: financial statements, commissions, expense analysis, investments, reinsurance, and losses and reserves.
Job Responsibilities Include:
• Prepares account analysis for the expense accounts (7xx).
• Assist in preparation of the statutory Annual and Quarterly Statements. Assist with external auditors on various related activities.
• Prepare standard journal entries on a monthly basis.
• Reconciliation of NCCI, AIPSO, and Fair Plan activity on quarterly basis including journal entries.
• Responsible for reconciling various bank reconciliations.
• Prepares monthly “MOST” Excel spreadsheet. This includes: posting loss and premium information from reports, updating prior year and budget information, posting expense account balances, recording claim count information, updating quarterly NCCI, AIPSO, Fair Plan, and GSRA, and other various items.
• Creates monthly cash report of daily deposits in an Excel spreadsheet.
• Responsible for posting journal entries to General Ledger and closing accounting books at end of the month.
• Responsible for processing monthly agent’s commission checks and balancing the Commission Payable account. Sends out monthly commission statements and ACH Direct Deposit Transfer.
• Prepares monthly New Jersey sales tax return along with posting accounts payable invoices that need New Jersey sales tax added.
• Prepares annual premium tax returns. Prepares electronic filing for Federal and State tax deposits.
• Cross-trained in knowledge of investment and fixed asset software to be a backup for Senior Accountant.
• Other jobs as assigned.
• Accommodate irregular work schedule and establish the personal mobility to attend financial training workshops and seminars.
• Is expected to keep confidential all information obtained during employment.

Education or Equivalent Experience:
• Bachelor’s degree in Accounting/Finance preferred or 5 years of related insurance accounting experience.
• Insurance company or Agency experience is a plus
• Bilingual (Spanish/Portuguese) skills are a plus
