To be considered you will need:

  • A high school diploma or equivalent
  • A valid Utah Driver’s License
  • To be a United States citizen
  • To be at least 21 years of age at time of appointment
  • To obtain/possess and maintain LEO P.O.S.T. certification within 12 months of hire; governed by Utah Code Ann. § 53-6-203
  • To demonstrate good moral character as determined by a background investigation
  • To be free of any physical, emotional, or mental conditions that might adversely affect the performance of duty as a Police Officer
  • To attend mandatory training and qualify annually in specified disciplines and obtain certifications as required by department policy

You may not have been:

  • Convicted of an offense involving dishonest, unlawful sexual conduct, physical violence and/or domestic violence
  • Convicted of the unlawful use, sale or possession of a controlled substance in the past five years
  • Convicted of a crime for which the applicant could have been punished by imprisonment in a federal penitentiary of this or another state

  • Can administer first aid, including CPR, to sick and injured persons
  • Can safely and effectively operate a police vehicle according to departmental policy and training
  • Can prepare clear and accurate reports on all activities engaged in
  • Can investigate or report acts of criminal activity, traffic offenses and incidents which are civil in nature
  • Can provide a sense of security for businesses and citizens within the community
  • Can perform other duties as assigned

  • Frequent sitting, standing or running for long periods of time and restrain or subdue individuals
  • Occasional stooping, bending, kneeling, crouching, reaching, twisting, climbing and balancing; regularly pushing and pulling
  • Frequent exposure and great mental pressure and fatigue due to moderate exposure to stressful situations, overtime, deadlines and contact with the public
  • Frequent exposure to unpleasant or hazardous conditions caused by the handling of dangerous situations
  • Exposure to all weather conditions, all types of environmental and physical hazards and dangerous situations
  • Constant interaction and exposure to difficult situations, contact with the public, problem-solving and deadlines
  • Good sense of touch, finger dexterity and gripping with hands and fingers
