Position Summary
The Import Supervisor is responsible for the facilitation and supervision of clearing imported shipments in compliance with U.S. Customs and Border Protection Rules and Regulations. The Supervisor provides guidance and training to import staff on customer service, maintaining communications with clients and vendors, and accurately processing and managing the flow of essential documentation while ensuring entries are properly controlled and timelines are monitored. This position requires a demonstrated ability to provide leadership and a consistent commitment to continuous improvement and customer satisfaction.
Key Responsibilities (Supervisory/Materials/Information)
- Monitor all import shipments to identify transactions approaching non-compliance
- Coordinate timely clearance and delivery of imported cargo based on company and customer service commitment standards
- Provide import performance reporting as prescribed by company requirements or customs service commitments
- Communicate with customers to ensure proper handling of goods and to keep customers advised of status and/or changes in import regulation, including tariff and bonding requirements
- Communicate to internal and external customers on the facts surrounding transactions outside of controls and include cause, impact, and corrective action to develop improved controls and improved service
- Provides consultation to clients on the importation of goods through U.S. Customs, governmental regulations, transportation, bonding/insurance requirements and general industry expertise
- Ensure that all staff within the supervisor’s designated team are providing a high level of customer service to all clients
- Oversee and manage the professional development and productivity of staff members to ensure proper goals, training, and project requirements are met
- Conduct and maintain documentation of annual performance reviews
- Have thorough working knowledge of, and apply, all concepts of Title 19 and the Harmonized Tariff Schedule of the United States (HTSUS)
- Drive departmental Standard Operating Procedures (QMS) and adherence to RAFUS policies and standards
- Oversee the scheduling of shift personnel including vacation and overtime approval
- Conduct customer specific audits to determine areas of improvement in client service and account management
- Perform staff management and administrative duties of : performance evaluation and disciplinary actions
Education and Experience
- High school diploma or equivalent
- One to two years of brokerage/freight forwarding experience
- A minimum of one year supervisory experience and/or lead experience, or equivalent
- Custom Brokers License preferred and considered an asset

- The associate is in an office setting, while being subjected to moderate noise levels
