Serves as a liaison between school administrators, students, families, and agencies to facilitate the utilization of educational system opportunities and resources. MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES & DUTIES: Interacts with students and families to provide information and assistance about attendance, academic expectations and requirements, available resources, alternative programs, educational opportunities, and behavioral expectations. Provides consultation with students, families, and school staff for crisis intervention and to encourage resolutions regarding student needs and behaviors; develops and teaches intervention strategies to help students achieve their academic goals. Facilitates opportunities to educate students on social and emotional concepts and skills, and strategies for conflict resolution and anger management. Works with family members and other individuals in a child’s living situation to help support their adjustment, learning, and development. Supports families with accessing special educational programs and resources for students with special education needs or learning disabilities. Assists districts in developing and implementing educational programs for exceptional or advanced students, as well as alternative programs for students who have dropped out, are delinquent, truant, or experiencing other issues impeding their learning. Offers support and education for school staff to help them improve their understanding of the cultural, societal, economical, or other factors that can impact students’ education and behavioral tendencies Identifies, reports, and supports school districts to intervene when child abuse or neglect is suspected or confirmed. Serves as a team member; participates in quality improvement activities through staff meetings, committees, and professional activities. Maintains professional competence in the field, including attending and participating in professional organizations, workshops, and conferences; reading professional journals and other related publications; and completing additional course work. KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES: Knowledge and skills of the IEP (Individualized Educational Planning) process. Ability to work with At-Risk students. Ability to maintain confidentiality. Ability to counsel students, parents, and staff, individually and in groups. Excellent verbal and written expression using proper grammar and vocabulary. Demonstrated competence in applying knowledge of a Social Worker acquired from experience and the completion of course study. Knowledge of community resources. Exemplary work habits verified by previous employers. High level of professionalism and interpersonal skills. Ability to interact and work with all levels of personnel, from senior management to youth on campus, and ability to communicate in an articulate, professional manner. REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS: Bachelor’s degree in social work or a related field of study required. Certification, Licensure, or Provisional Licensure as a Social Worker in the State of NE required. Experience with social work case reporting and management required. PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS: Minimum of 2 years of experience preferred.
