Position Title: Bartender

Location: The Press Hotel

Department: Food & Beverage

Accountable To: F&B Manager, Lead Bartender

FLSA: Non-Exempt

Primary Objective of Position:

Serve beverages and food items to customers in a friendly, consistent, professional and timely manner.

Essential Functions/ Teamwork Skills:

  • Prepare drinks for the customers and servers, ensure that the proper materials and supplies are on hand, and talk to guests. Ensure that minors and intoxicated persons are not served alcoholic beverages
  • Maintain the cleanliness of the bar area through disposing of all waste, clearing and cleaning all glassware, and wiping down bar and preparation areas.
  • Provide opening and closing inventory of spirits.
  • Take every opportunity to amaze the guests using Property Customer Service Standards.
  • Smile, have eye contact any greet guests immediately.
  • Handle special requests properly; anticipate guest’s needs.
  • Promptly respond and resolve guest complaints.
  • Answer telephone promptly and properly being polite, courteous and friendly.
  • Present checks to guests promptly.
  • Use guests’ names.
  • Actively ask for feedback from guests.
  • Be knowledgeable and helpful about the local area, the hotel and the hotel services.
  • Adhere to all applicable Property Standard Operating Procedures.
  • Perform opening/ closing duties for the bar.
  • Take orders for and serve all beverage requests, using suggestive selling techniques.
  • Clear tables in lounge and lobby area throughout shift.
  • Control guest checks and secure proper payment. Demonstrate proper selling techniques.
  • Have complete knowledge of restaurant, menu, function space, guest rooms, outlets and services.
  • Ensure station and table set-ups are complete and perform various side duties as assigned by Supervisor.
  • Maintain proper condition and cleanliness of bar area through disposing of all waste, clearing and cleaning all glassware, and wiping down bar and preparation areas.
  • Take every opportunity to amaze the guests using Property Customer Service Standards.

  • Perform other assignments as directed by supervisor.
  • Adhere to all work rules, procedures and policies established by the company including, but not limited to those contained in the associate handbook.

Other:

  • Regular attendance in conformance with the standards, which may be established from time to time, is essential to the successful performance of this position. Associates with irregular attendance will be subject to disciplinary action, up to and including termination of employment.
  • Due to the cyclical nature of the hospitality industry, associates may be required to work varying schedules to reflect the business needs of the hotel. In addition, attendance at all scheduled training sessions and meeting is required.
  • Upon employment, all associates are required to fully comply with Property rules and regulations for the safe and effective operation of the hotel facilities. Associates who violate hotel rules and regulations will be subject to disciplinary action, up to and including termination of employment.

Supportive Functions:

In addition to performance of the essential functions, this position may be required to perform a combination of the following supportive functions, with the percentage of time performing each function to be solely determined by the manager based upon the particular requirements of the hotel:

  • Assist servers, other bartenders, and bar porters when necessary.
  • Participate in the deep cleaning of the outlet.
  • Participate in the serving of food upon request.
  • Wash all glassware, snack bowls and ashtrays and clean coffee machine at the end of the night.
  • Participate in the serving of food.
  • Participate in maintaining the cleanliness of the outlet.
  • Restock fruit and supplies needed.
  • Clean coffee machine at the end of the shift.
  • Additional duties as necessary and assigned.
  • Document and communicate maintenance issues.
  • Attend required meetings.
  • Maintain a clean and orderly work area.
  • Properly document all transactions.
  • Handle and account for all cash, checks, and credit cards.
  • Adhere to proper procedures for charging drinks to guest rooms.
  • Balance and close shift properly.

Safety and Security:

  • Properly handle and account for keys.
  • Be knowledgeable of policies regarding emergency procedures, lost and found items and security concerns.
  • Adhere to all state and federal requirements regarding to the sale of alcohol.
  • Adhere to all Health Department requirements.
  • Ensure protection of guests’ room numbers.
  • Ensure and properly handle guest personal and financial information to ensure security.
  • Be aware of suspicious activities and report to a member of management immediately when present.
  • Be knowledgeable about harassment in the workplace and appropriate reporting steps.

Physical Demands:

  • Most work tasks are performed indoors.
  • Must be able to move up to 25 lbs regularly, and 50 lbs. occasionally.
  • Must be able to identify and address deficiencies in cleanliness and safety standards and notify appropriate team members of same.
  • Must be able to remain in a stationary position for up to 8 hours per day. Moving about the property and between floors is occasionally required. Length of time of these tasks may vary from day to day and task to task.
  • Ability to exchange information in the process of communicating managers and guests
  • Ability to operate equipment.

Knowledge Requirements:

The individual must possess the following knowledge, skills and abilities and be able to explain and demonstrate that he or she can perform the essential functions of the job, with or without reasonable accommodation, using some other combination of knowledge, skills, and abilities:

  • Must be able to communicate in and understand the primary language(s) used in the workplace.
  • Requires good communication skills, both verbal and written.
  • Ability to be focused and self-motivated; there is minimal supervision.
  • Ability to participate as a part of a team.
  • Knowledge of operations, its services and facilities.
  • Must be able to effectively present information and respond to questions from groups to manager, clients, vendors and ownership.
  • Must be able to apply mathematical operations
  • Must be able to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions.
  • Ability to maintain compliance with all local, state and federal laws and regulations
  • Customer service experience is preferred.
  • Ability to obtain and/or maintain Alcohol Awareness/food handlers’ certification. Must be minimum age to serve alcohol.
  • Knowledge of operations, its services and facilities.
  • Have general knowledge of city and its attractions.

Grooming

  • All associates must maintain a neat, clean and well-groomed appearance per Property standards.
