Primarily Pediatric, but may need to work with other populations.
The Physical Therapist organizes and conducts medically prescribed physical therapy programs in the health care setting to restore function, prevent disability following disease, injury or loss of body part.
In the execution of job duties, it is the universal expectation that all tasks are performed with a patient centered focus, while also seeking opportunities to continually improve core processes. Incumbent will be scheduled based on operational need, which may include but is not limited to: holidays, extended shifts, night and/or weekend shifts, standby and/or on-call. Reports to: Director, Physical Medicine
Essential Functions
Presents information in an effective and professional manner.
Consults with other members of the rehab team, physicians, and others as needed to select the most appropriate treatment. Ascertains appropriateness of treatment ordered and contacts referring physician with any concerns. Designs and implements treatment plans, adapting interventions to the patient's personal goals.
Delegates treatment to the Therapy Assistant and Rehabilitation Technician with verbal and written patient information, as appropriate. Monitors treatments and tasks performed by the Licensed Physical Therapy Assistant and the technician. Ensures that treatment goals are objective, functional, and measurable.
Attains and maintains knowledge of appropriate growth and development principles relative
to the pediatric, adolescent, adult, and geriatric patient. Incorporates knowledge and principles into the care of various patient populations.
Develops programs to assist in employee and community education.
Attends and participates in patient care coordination meetings, team and family
conferences, as needed.
Prepares complete written evaluation for patient’s chart using objective information and
concise language. Completes necessary documentation accurately and according to departmental guidelines.
Maintains an organized schedule and strives to meet deadlines. Provides comfort and supportive care to the patient at all times. Maintains patient privacy and safety.
Minimum Education
Bachelor’s Degree or (Physical Therapy Certificate) X Required
Master’s Degree or Doctorate Preferred

Certifications:
X Basic Life Support (BLS)
Required Licenses
Licensed Physical Therapist in the state of Virginia (Required)
Required Skills
Requires critical thinking skills, decisive judgment and the ability to work with minimal supervision. Must be able to work in a stressful environment and take appropriate action.
Minimum Work Experience
Preferred - Health care environment.
