Description
Fay School seeks a Per Diem School Nurse to join its Health Office Team to provide nursing services, first aid, illness assessment, and health maintenance to students as required during day, evening, or weekend shifts:
Day shift: 7:00 a.m. – 3:00 p.m.
Evening shift: 2:30 p.m. – 10:00 p.m.
Weekend shift: 10:00 a.m. – 4:00 p.m. (on-campus); 4:00 p.m. – 10:00 p.m. (on-call)
Fay School’s team of registered nurses work in collaboration with a local doctor and have access to hospitals in the Boston and
Worcester areas. During the school year, Fay is home to more than 480 students, including 150 boarding students in grades 7 through 9 who come from 21 countries, including the United States. This position reports to the Assistant Head of School for Finance and Operations. This is a school-year, part-time position and may not eligible for benefits, depending on scheduled hours.
Qualifications
Candidates must have a minimum of five years’ supervised nursing experience, maintain a current Massachusetts RN or LPN license, and maintain certifications in CPR and First Aid. We seek a motivated, resourceful, and flexible candidates who have demonstrated good judgment, interpersonal skills, attention to detail and accuracy of health records. Candidates are expected to understand the health needs of adolescents and to be able to work effectively in a cooperative team environment with minimal supervision. Strong verbal and written communication skills are essential, as well as the ability to work with students and parents whose first language is not English. A good understanding of Microsoft Office and Google applications, plus the ability to learn Fay’s Health Office software application are required.
Responsibilities include:
•Providing first aid, illness assessment, health maintenance to students
•Being able to adjust on-campus hours if required to meet the medical needs of boarding students
•Administering daily prescription and PRN medication according to the Massachusetts Department of Public Health Medication
Administration guidelines
•Communicating with parents/faculty/advisors about student illnesses and care plans
•Developing health care plans with interventions and goals in accordance with the school’s nursing practice with the consulting
physician
•Maintaining accurate documentation of individual student visits to the Health Office
•Consulting with administrators, teachers, coaches, other school nurses, the school physician, and residential life staff to assure
a safe and healthy school environment
•Providing for the physical safety of the school community by monitoring immunizations, screening for infectious illness, and
reporting diseases as required by law
•Identifying students who exhibit health or emotional needs, providing health education and crisis intervention as needed, and
referring students to the School’s counseling services when appropriate.
