Overview
We are currently seeking a dedicated and detail-oriented Freight Dispatcher to join our team at FDA Enterprises. As a Freight Dispatcher, you will play a crucial role in coordinating the movement of freight, ensuring timely deliveries, and maintaining effective communication with drivers and customers.
Responsibilities
Dispatching:
- Receive and process load information from customers, brokers, or internal sources.
- Verify pick numbers, case counts, and product details with loading facilities before dispatching drivers.
- Communicate with drivers, providing detailed information on load expectations, hours of service, and special instructions.
- Address discrepancies in Bill of Lading (BOL) and dispatch manifests promptly.
- Liaise with customers, brokers, and loading facilities to resolve any issues related to loads.
Check Calls/Updates:
- Receive check calls from drivers, ensuring they are on schedule and addressing any delays or issues.
- Monitor drivers' progress using GPS tracking (Samsara) and provide updates to customers.
- Communicate with drivers during loading and unloading processes, ensuring adherence to procedures.
- Alert customers of any delays or issues and provide regular updates on driver location, ETA, and distance to the destination.
Paperwork:
- Oversee the collection of paperwork after each delivery, verifying BOL details and signatures.
- Ensure drivers upload delivery documentation to the system promptly.
- Communicate any discrepancies or issues with customers and drivers, seeking resolutions.
Hours of Service Monitoring:
- Monitor and review drivers' Hours of Service (HOS) daily to prevent violations.
- Provide guidance to drivers on breaks, drive times, and trip planning to avoid violations.
- Address any HOS violations promptly and work with drivers to plan trips efficiently.
Daily Inspections:
- Ensure drivers complete pre-trip and post-trip inspections as required by FMCSA.
- Review Driver Vehicle Inspection Reports (DVIRs) daily and follow up on any noted defects.
- Encourage proactive resolution of defects by drivers and coordinate repairs as needed.
Regular Scheduled Maintenance:
- Follow the company's Vehicle Maintenance Policy, including timely reporting of hub miles, reefer hours, and odometer readings.
- Coordinate scheduled maintenance for trucks and trailers, ensuring compliance with PM services.
- Facilitate PM services for owned equipment and coordinate repairs for defects.
Finding Loads:
- Collaborate with team members to identify and secure loads for efficient freight movement.
- Negotiate rates with brokers, ensuring competitiveness and profitability.
- Provide necessary information to drivers and brokers, including tractor and trailer details.
Qualifications
1. Previous experience as a Freight Dispatcher is preferred.
2. Familiarity with McLeod, Samsara, Truckstop, and other relevant tools.
3. Strong communication skills with the ability to handle challenging situations.
4. Knowledge of FMCSA regulations and Hours of Service rules required.
5. Detail-oriented and able to multitask in a fast-paced environment.
Schedule
The Freight Dispatcher position at FDA Enterprises operates on a standard schedule from 8:00 AM to 5:00 PM. In addition to regular working hours, the successful candidate may be required to participate in on-call duties as needed. This on-call responsibility ensures the smooth coordination of freight movement outside of standard working hours and contributes to the overall efficiency of our operations
