YOUR DAY AS A HUMAN SERVICES MENTOR

As a Human Services Mentor with our human services nonprofit, your primary responsibility is to work closely with clients on a daily basis, providing them with guidance, support, and connections to healthy and pro-social community activities, people, and resources. You engage in open and honest dialogue with respectful listening, while also sharing information about alternative perspectives and choices, all while maintaining clear interpersonal boundaries that establish your role as a mentor.

To ensure that our clients receive the best possible outcomes, you uphold the program's philosophy and principles that have been imparted to you through mentor training. Your ultimate goal is to assist your mentees in becoming accountable for their actions and understanding the impact of their behavior on the community. You are also required to complete reports about your interactions with your mentees.

QUALIFICATIONS FOR A HUMAN SERVICES MENTOR?

  • High school diploma or equivalent
  • 2 years of experience in criminal justice
  • Knowledge about criminal justice issues and populations, community health, HIV and Hep-C transmission and prevention, addiction and harm reduction, and socio-cultural issues
  • Computer literate and proficient in Microsoft Office
  • Mature, reliable, trustworthy, and emotionally stable

Bilingual in English and Spanish is preferred but not required. Experience working with public assistance recipients, the homeless, the formerly incarcerated, or those affected by the challenges associated with poverty would be a plus.

We are looking for someone who is a great communicator, can take an analytical approach, and builds rapport easily. You also need to be highly organized and detail-oriented.
