Data Scientist - Level II, III, IV

Position Summary

Federal Data Systems is seeking a Data Scientist - Level II, III, and IV. The candidates will devise strategies for extracting meaning and value from large datasets to inform the national customer of potential operational outcomes.  

Essential Job Functions

• Candidate must have some combination (2 or more) of the following skill areas:  

• Foundations: Mathematical, Computational, Statistical 
• Data Processing: Data management and curation, data description and visualization, workflow and reproducibility 
• Modeling, Inference, and Prediction:  Data modeling and assessment, domain-specific consideration.  

• Ability to make and communicate principal conclusions from data using elements of mathematics, statistics, computer science, and applications-specific knowledge.   
• Ability to use analytic modeling, statistical analysis, programming, and/or another appropriate scientific method, develop and implement qualitative and quantitative methods for characterizing, exploring, and assessing large datasets in various states of organization, cleanliness, and structure that account for the unique feature and limitations inherent in National Agency data holdings.  
• Translate practical mission needs and analytic questions related to large datasets into technical requirements and, conversely, assist others with drawing appropriate conclusions from the analysis of such data.  
• Effectively communicate complex technical information to non-technical audiences.  
• Make informed recommendations regarding competing technical solutions by maintaining awareness of the constantly shifting National Agency collection, processing, storage, and analytic capability and limitations.  

Minimum Required Qualifications

• Due to the nature of this position and the information that employees will be required to access; U.S. Citizenship is required.
• Required Security Clearance: TS/SCI with Poly

• Bachelor degree in Mathematics, Applied Mathematics Statistics, Applied Statistics, Machine learning, Data Science, Operations Research, or Computer Science or a degree in a related field (Computer Information Systems, Engineering), OR
• Bachelor degree in the physical/hard sciences (e.g. physics, chemistry, biology, astronomy).   
• Bachelor degree in other fields considered with possession of Certificate in Data Science

• Degree and Relevant years of experience:
• AA and minimum of  5 years of experience or,
• BA/BS and minimum of 3 years of experience

Working Conditions: 

Work is typically based in a busy office environment and subject to frequent interruptions. Business work hours are normally set from Monday through Friday 8:00am to 5:00pm, however some extended or weekend hours may be required. Additional details on the precise hours will be informed to the candidate from the Program Manager/Hiring Manager. 

Physical Requirements: 

May be required to lift and carry items weighting up to 25 lbs. Requires intermittent standing, walking, sitting, squatting, stretching and bending throughout the workday. 

Background Screening/Check/Investigation: 

Successful Completion of a Background Screening/Check/Investigation will be required as a condition of hire.
