About the Opportunity
The Enterprise Data Services (EDS) organization has an immediate opening for a Cloud Data Architect. We are looking for a strategist who leans toward delivery and drives execution with patience and urgency.
The Federal Reserve System's cloud data platform provides a common, centralized, end-to-end data and analytics platform that enables advanced data management and analytics solutions for business lines across the Federal Reserve System. We work with state-of-the-art technologies that are part of the next generation data ecosystem, which includes products and services used for data ingestion, storage, processing, integration, data lakes, warehousing, and data analytics.
As an advanced architect, you will have an opportunity to showcase your critical thinking and technical skills across many disciplines and across the Federal Reserve System. This role is instrumental in shaping the direction of enterprise data. A high-level goal of this position is to be a leader of product line architecture for enterprise data services as well as a product design specialist. You will work closely with the product line enterprise architect, and cross-functionally within an Agile program with other Architects, Product Owners, Design Engineers, Developers, and Business Analysts in a rapidly evolving environment to make this happen. As an Architect, you will be accountable for documented secure and scalable architecture to fulfill business needs. You will also mentor and coach seasoned engineers who may have limited cloud and transformation experience.
As part of the National IT team, our cloud data service team works with multiple business lines, the Federal Reserve Board, and multiple IT groups from Federal Reserve System districts.
What You Will Do:
- Define architecture principles, patterns, data flows schematics, blueprints, guidelines, and standard methodologies and outlines high-level integrated designs to meet requirements.
- Lead and define data standards and governance framework, guidelines, and procedures.
- Demonstrate leadership, collaboration, exceptional communication, negotiation, and influencing skills to gain consensus and produce the best solutions.
- Effectively socialize architecture to get feedback and buy-in to develop strategic direction.
- Ensure that architecture designs meet business and technical requirements and principles, while taking into account all data sources concerning business operations and designing integrated solutions to maintain all data.
- Identify data sources, both internal and external, and develop a strategy for data management that aligns with security and cloud constraints.
- Conduct architecture and design reviews that align with enterprise strategy and related business architecture, including business processes and application data needs.
- Develop and implement design and testing processes and techniques to ensure ongoing data quality.
- Provide architectural assessments, strategies, and roadmaps for data management.
- Develop product roadmaps in alignment with other data ecosystem subproducts and business roadmaps.
- Work in close collaboration with developers and data engineers to build a sound data architecture.
- Establish service levels for data, RPO, RTO for business data within processes and systems.
- Advise on third-party tools that work smoothly within the Federal Reserve System AWS cloud environment.
- Engage with technology teams across the Federal Reserve System to drive strategic improvements over time.
- Engage with Senior Executives, business leaders at the Federal Reserve, and the Federal Reserve Board to share strategies.
- Conduct research and POCs (proofs of concept) and participate in RFPs (requests for proposal) to advise on decisions regarding emerging technologies.
- Promote collaboration across business and IT organizations.
Qualifications:
- Five or more years of experience in architecting advanced enterprise data services in an enterprise setting (on-prem, cloud. or hybrid) experience is preferred.
- Proficiency in data modeling and design, including SQL development and database administration.
- Bachelor's degree in computer science, Management Information Systems, Computer Engineering, or related field or equivalent work experience. Advance degree preferred.
- Must have a proven track record as a technology transformational leader in the data platform and analytics space.
- Must have business acumen skills to understand and anticipate business priorities.
- Must have experience with leveraging CI/CD pipelines in cloud and Infrastructure (IAC) and Code scripting.
- Ideal candidate will have a mix solution, network, security, and data architecture.
- Demonstrates mutual respect, embraces diversity, and acts with authenticity.
- Demonstrates analytical and problem-solving skills.
- Experience with applying and managing data governance processes.
- Five or more years architecting or building with all aspects of cloud design, development, and implementation.
- Experience in developing product roadmap and translating to strategic plan.
- Prefer hands on experience with cloud-based data lakes, Redshift, Glue, DMS, AWS SDK and other AWS data related services including various vendor data integration, compute and storage offerings.
- Experience with managing data structures for RDS, NOSQL Databases, RDBMS and in-memory databases
- Ability to understand steps for data wrangling and data mining.
- Demonstrable experience in one or more languages such as Java, Kafka, JavaScript, Spark, PySpark and Python are a plus.
- Strong background in data structures, networking, performance, and scalability
- Familiarity with Agile methodologies is a plus.
- Strong application development background is a plus.
- One or more certifications is a plus. Examples: Certified AWS Solutions Architect - Professional, Certified AWS AI/ML Specialty, DevOps on an AWS platform
- Ability to communicate with self-awareness with all levels of the organization is critical to success.
- Must be self-aware with strong EQ, and the flexibility to adapt communication styles to fit the audience.

- The hiring range is $125,500 - $172,590 annually.
- For candidates outside Richmond, VA, listed hiring and salary ranges may be adjusted based on your geographic location.
