Decision Scientist

Assists in providing data-driven support, technical expertise to stakeholders, offers actionable insights and potential outcomes that inform business decisions in complex conditions. Partners with data science, business intelligence, and data engineering teams to create tools that automate processes and provide valuable information for decision makers. Assists in analyzing and interpreting data in the context of overarching business circumstances, goals, and objectives as it directly relates to specific business questions. Identifies opportunities to implement new capabilities for automated solutions for continuous process improvements. Performs other duties as assigned.

Master’s degree in operations research, industrial engineering, computer science, applied mathematics, data analytics, machine learning, or related quantitative field plus three (3) years of experience in the job offered or 3 years of experience in advanced data analytics, optimization modeling, simulation modeling, machine learning, statistical modeling, data visualization, and developing data-driven modeling focused solutions. The employer will alternatively accept a PhD in operations research, industrial engineering, computer science, applied mathematics, data analytics, machine learning, or related quantitative field in lieu of a Master's degree plus three (3) years of experience. Experience must include (skill sets can be gained through education or experience): Microsoft Azure, Cloud based data capture and programming, JavaScript, HTML, and Spotfire/PowerBI reporting development. Knowledge of statistics and machine learning techniques, simulation, optimization, current programming languages including Python, SAS/R, and MS.Net, and current/emerging data visualization techniques including MS SSRS and Tableau. Strong analytical and critical thinking skills. Strong business acumen. Strong problem-solving skills. Strong written and verbal communication skills. Strong interpersonal skills. Ability to identify appropriate modeling techniques to be used for solving specific business problems. Ability to make decision and identify insights from imperfect data with ambiguous circumstance. Position allows for telecommuting from home within commuting distance of Memphis, TN.
