NavalX is on a mission to power the rapid development and deployment of relevant technologies that solve Fleet-defined and Fleet-owned problems through a collaborative Naval enterprise approach. Powered by relationships within and outside the Department of Defense, NavalX helps innovators deliver relevant tools and solutions to Sailors and Marines - when and where they need them most. NavalX helps startups, small businesses, academic institutions, local governments, and other innovators understand Naval needs and break down barriers to working with the Department of the Navy. Resources and tools include access to multiple funding sources and ways to contract, partner, engage and collaborate to support Naval transformation in practical ways.

NavalX Austin Lead (FedTech Principal)

What you’ll do:

FedTech is proud to support NavalX and we are looking for a leader focused on creating and executing the strategy on how NavalX builds and manages its presence in the greater Austin innovation ecosystem. This will require an individual to create and maintain executive level relationships with government agencies, national labs, economic development organizations, city and state officials, academic institutions, and industry. Your responsibilities will include metrics such as growth, retention, and partnership engagement across our community, bringing together a vast network of entrepreneurs, inventors, industry, investors, and other strategic partners.

• Develop and execute a strategic plan to catalyze the Austin innovation ecosystem through stakeholder engagement and innovation activities. This includes identifying and interviewing relevant stakeholders, mapping relevant assets and organizations, and creating an ecosystem map and plan that leverages all stakeholders for 10x impact. 
• Plan, resource and actively manage programs budgets, project plans and client management of a diverse group of stakeholders ranging from government to industry. 
• Lead the team responsible for the day-to-day operations of stakeholder relations and innovation activities.
• Consult and advise local entrepreneurs on potential partnerships and opportunities for SMEs in Austin and with the greater DoD/Navy organizations. 
• Coordinate with other NavalX communities and participate in all relevant NavalX meetings and activities, providing a monthly summary to FedTech and NavalX.
• Develop and maintain internal processes and databases (CRM) for community maintenance, growth, and outreach.
• Organize regular community engagement events bringing together innovators, entrepreneurs, industry leaders and investors.
• Work collaboratively with the FedTech team to promote and achieve the mission of  NavalX

Successful candidates will have the following qualifications:

• An advanced degree in business or engineering/science, or equivalent experience
• Approximately 10 years of experience in relevant industries: venture growth, economic development, project, program, and/or operational management experience
• 5 years of direct entrepreneurial or innovation programming experience (ex: lead accelerators/incubators or successfully exited a venture-backed company)
• Familiarity or knowledge of dual-use technology and DoD research or technology initiatives and organizations such as DIU, DARPA, and the Naval Research & Development Establishment
• P&L ownership experience preferred.
• Adept at motivating and supporting direct reports to achieve a shared vision.
• Ability to build strong relationships with a diverse set of people and perform in a fast-paced environment.

Work Authorization:

• U.S. citizenship required. 
• Candidate must currently hold or be eligible for a TS/SCI clearance.

Location:

Position is based in Austin, TX and will require an on-site presence.
