What are the responsibilities and job description for the Assistant Site Manager position at Feed My Starving Children?
Your Role:
Assist with managing the daily operations of a Feed My Starving Children (FMSC) food-packing site. Supervise and coach part-time personnel, oversee assigned tactical and administrative functions, and help the team to achieve organizational goals. Lead staff in providing an exceptional volunteer experience. Act as backup to the Site Manager.
Pay, Schedule, & Benefits:
- This is a full-time, exempt (salaried) position. Regular schedule includes 1-2 evening shifts per week, 1 Saturday shift per month, pick up sub shifts as needed, and otherwise regular M-F daytime business hours.

What You’ll Do:
- Hire, train, schedule, supervise, and manage performance of Volunteer Program Facilitators. Effectively communicate information across shifts, facilitate meetings, and coach and develop overall team performance.
- Assist the Site Manager in overseeing the tactical and administrative operations of the site. Plan production and production control, complete bank deposits and associated reconciliations, assist in managing building/technical issues as they arise, etc.
- Assist the Site Manager in overseeing progress towards the site’s strategic goals and initiatives, including fundraising, volunteer experience, compliance, employee engagement, and MarketPlace™ operations.
- Manage and execute the onboarding process for new hires.
- Manage shift scheduling and substitute processes and communication.
- Lead site-level staff enrichment initiatives, including training, professional development, and teambuilding.
- Act as a Volunteer Program Supervisor on two scheduled shifts (four hours) per week, with an additional 1-2 floating shifts (2-4 hours) per week available on the floor to assist. Supervise the execution of food packing operations, coach and delegate tasks, and ensure that operations run according to FMSC policies and procedures.
- Lead initiatives and special projects as assigned. Update Site Manager and teammates on progress, and adjust goals according to changing site needs.
- Oversee adherence to food safety, food quality, and workplace safety policies and procedures. Maintain OSHA and FDA compliance (full Food Manager Safety Certification training provided).
- Act as backup for the Site Manager.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
Your Qualifications:
- Passionate about FMSC’s Christian mission and living it out in the workplace.
- Minimum of a bachelor’s degree, 2 years of related work experience, and 1 year of supervisory experience required. In lieu of degree, relevant work experience will be considered.
- Strong leadership and coaching skills. Able to assertively delegate and coordinate. Assist with change management.
- Strong interpersonal communication, public speaking, customer service, and writing skills.
- Excellent organizational skills with a high degree of detail, accuracy, and follow-through. Can prioritize, manage multiple tasks, and meet deadlines in a fast-paced environment.
- Able to identify, troubleshoot, and solve problems.
- Respect volunteers of all ages, religious beliefs, ethnicities, and types (ex. special needs, court-ordered).
- Able to maintain energy and stamina during 8-hour shifts with nearly continual standing and walking.
- Able to push, pull, lift 30-50 lbs. repeatedly, bend, twist, and use hand tools like scissors.
- Able to tolerate consistent exposure to soy (an allergen).
