Feeding South Dakota, the state's largest charitable hungry relief organization, is seeking to hire an Western Volunteer Coordinator at its Rapid City, SD location.
Job Summary
The Western Volunteer Coordinator is responsible for the successful development, implementation, and management of Feeding South Dakota’s volunteer program in Rapid City and its surrounding areas (as well as rural mobile food distribution areas), including the recruitment, retention, and recognition of volunteers to meet identified needs of the organization. This position will also oversee engagement with the community to include the management of food drives as well as peer-to-peer fundraising opportunities.
Job Responsibilities
Volunteerism:
Serves as point of contact for inquiries and questions from existing and potential volunteers for Rapid City and its surrounding areas, including scheduling volunteers via email, phone, and website for shifts.
Works with Feeding South Dakota staff to identify volunteer projects and activities.
Effectively coordinates, maintains, and communicates volunteer schedules with Operations staff and provides them with the resources needed for successful volunteer experience.
Welcomes, trains, and supervises individual and volunteer groups.
Manages the arrival and intake process of volunteers at the beginning of their shifts.
Assists with the writing of and maintenance of standard operating procedures for job responsibilities.
Completes necessary paperwork and/or computer input for volunteers. (i.e., community service, court-ordered, etc.)
Maintains accurate location-specific software database of volunteers, including volunteer hour tracking.
Manages volunteer scheduling, confirmation, and thank you process for Rapid City and its surrounding area volunteers.
Executes responsibilities relating to special events (ie. Volunteer Appreciation Week, Bring Your Child to Serve Day, Thanksgiving Meal Distribution), working closely with the Development and Operations teams.
Provides accurate data and reporting to Finance and Development teams, as necessary.
Works closely with the Community Engagement Manager and Development team to identify and cultivate volunteers into donors.
Represents Feeding South Dakota as a polished spokesperson when necessary.
Speaks on Feeding South Dakota’s mission and the opportunity for volunteers at events, businesses, organizations, etc. as needed in coordination with the Community Engagement Manager.
Stewards and recognizes volunteers, provides content for social media recognition, volunteer awards, etc.
Regular attendance and attention to punctuality are required for a person to be successful in this role.
Willing to learn warehouse equipment such as forklift and electric pallet jack and operate as needed
Other duties as assigned.
Food and Fund Drives:
Coordinates community/organization partnered food and fund drives by assisting donors with planning of the details, creative suggestions, and ideas to maximize food/funds collected for Feeding South Dakota. Establish and cultivate new partnered food and fund drives. Stewardship of existing food and fund drives.
In coordination with the western Major Gifts Coordinator, assists with the management of community partnerships to include research, stewardship, on-line peer-to-peer fundraisers, food and fund drive requests and other community engagement activities.
Attend partnered food and fund drive events as requested from the community as approved by the Community Engagement Manager and Development Director.
Speaks to Feeding South Dakota’s mission at events, businesses, organizations, etc. as needed in coordination with the CEO, Development Director, and Marketing and Communications Director.
Assists with tours and check presentations in coordination with the Western Development Associate, Development Director, and CEO.
Qualifications:
Commitment to the mission, vision, and values of Feeding South Dakota.
Minimum of a bachelor’s degree and at least two years of relevant experience is required.
Must possess excellent communication, public speaking, and presentation skills.
Essential to be detailed oriented and organized.
Ability to work in a fast-paced, team atmosphere utilizing strong collaboration and interpersonal skills.
Personnel management and training responsibilities are desired experiences for consideration.
Must be proficient in MS Office computer programs.
Some weekend and evening work may be required.
