What are the responsibilities and job description for the Veterinary Technician I position at FEFA LLC?
FEFA, LLC is currently seeking a Veterinary Technician I for an animal research facility in Durham, NC. This description is not all-inclusive of the duties required to complete the job daily. Employees are expected to complete all assigned duties each day as directed by management.
Compensation is based on skills and experience.

JOB DUTIES:
- Check for new Animal Health Report sheets in designated boxes of each module
- Performs animal health checks on animals reported by staff via Animal Health Report to include observations, provide medical treatments as prescribed, and monitoring of animals
- Follow up at least weekly on cases being monitored
- Communicate with investigator/animal user on the health of animals, whether to monitor or the need for euthanasia
- Communicate with animal husbandry technicians/module supervisors of treatments prescribed for animals
- Maintain a case log of active cases for animal health issues, so that daily treatments, endpoints can be followed through to resolution.
- Act as a liaison with Vet Med and the contract staff to include the training of technicians on issues specific to individual rooms.
- Filing animal disposition sheets making sure all sheets have current information, and are available for all protocols utilizing animals, and a schedule for the review and replacement of sheets as needed.
- Fill out QA request form for submitting specimens
- Perform monthly walk-through of rooms
- Assist with sample collection as requested
- Perform routine laboratory analysis and microbiological tests on samples as requested
- Weekly distribution of copies of animal health sheets completed
- Attend scheduled meetings
- Attend weekly VMS meetings
- Attend Weekly contract training sessions
- Daily communication with other members of VMS
- Data entry of information
- Attend and participate in monthly animal health meetings
- Assisting in preparing minutes for animal health meetings
- Perform record keeping
- Additional duties as assigned
EDUCATION, CERTIFICATION, & EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS:
- Associate of Arts Degree in Veterinary Technology or equivalent experience.
- Must hold a current AALAS certification at the LAT level or be eligible to take the exam within 6 months of hire.
- Previous animal experience
