Fermilab seeks an experienced Construction Specialist/Task Manager to join our Facility Project Coordinator (FPC) group who will assist our Project Managers and Construction Management staff in being responsible for construction activities across the 6,800-acre Fermilab site.

Fermilab's Facilities Engineering Services Section builds and maintains mission-critical infrastructure and services from which high-energy physics research can be safely accomplished without interruption. We provide housing accommodations and logistics and property management. We work on projects that support all of the laboratory's facilities and experiments.

You Will:

  • Manage and oversee assigned work projects of excavation, mechanical, HVAC, electrical or general construction in nature.
  • Prepare scopes of work, cost estimates, and initiate new construction and service contracts.
  • Manage work authorizations, change orders, final inspections, and final payments
  • Coordinate conventional construction or significant maintenance activities with ongoing science operations, serving as the primary liaison with project managers, contractors, clients, and inspection authorities.
  • Coordinate contractors planning and quality control processes, including preliminary job site discussions, required inspections, required testing, and final acceptance inspections.
  • Manage and making decisions related to the performance of work related to scheduling, delivery, logistics, safety, quality control and trade employee staffing levels.
  • Oversee work among multiple contracts to promote and coordinate project operations. Resolving local area problems regarding procedures, precedence, design clarifications, adequate labor and equipment, schedule and all other appropriate matters.
  • Participate in contractor performance review at the end of the subcontract.
  • Respect, understand and value individual differences that embody the principles of diversity.

We Are Looking For:

  • Associates degree or equivalent in related field with a minimum of 7 years of industrial/commercial experience or Bachelor's degree in Construction Management, Engineering, Engineering Technology or related field with a minimum of 1 years of industrial/commercial
  • Digital literacy and a familiarity with Microsoft Office Suite programs
  • Must have completed or ability to complete within 30 days OSHA Construction Safety 30 Hour construction safety course
  • Must be able to work outside normal working hours when required

Physical Activity and Work Conditions

Human Factors: Mental Concentration, Sitting, Tight Work Schedule

  • Ability to occasionally work outside normal working hours.
  • Ability to conduct field investigations.
  • Ability to visit and traverse construction sites for quality assurance, safety oversight and issue resolution.
  • Ability and willingness to travel domestically and internationally by commercial air carrier.
