POSITION PURPOSE: The Machine Repair – Maintenance Department performs a variety of service functions. This would include but is not limited to analyzing and correcting machinery and mechanical problems throughout the plant; repairing and overhauling equipment and machinery; troubleshooting and preventative maintenance on equipment, machinery and building.
REPORTS TO: Plant Engineer - Maintenance
JOB DUTIES:
1. Analyze mechanical and operational problems on assigned equipment/machinery and plans for and takes corrective action. Makes necessary corrections and running adjustments to maintain maximum production and quality;
2. Reviews schedule and when equipment/machinery is available, changes over equipment or performs scheduled maintenance;
3. Tests equipment to check operation. Clears jams and adjusts necessary to run production. Tries out equipment after repairs;
4. Services equipment/machinery by checking, testing and replacing faulty or broken components;
5. Installs, repairs and maintains equipment/machinery including some electrical/electronic;
6. Fabricates parts when necessary using machines and/or hand tools common to the trade;
7. Determines need for analyses, and makes necessary running adjustments, repairs, and overhauls;
8. Advises and communicates regarding potentially dangerous equipment and machinery problems;
9. Follows and ensures all lockout/tag-out procedures related to equipment, machines and other forms of energy are followed;
10. Communicates potential equipment problems and dangers;
11. Performs routine maintenance/cleaning duties in the department on equipment and area;
12. Works in close association with Injection Molding and/or Finishing management staff;
13. Performs other duties as assigned and directed.
REQUIREMENTS:
Education: High School Vocational Education or higher in the machine repair field.
Knowledge: An ability to read and write. Must be able to follow verbal as well as written instructions and have a thorough understanding of equipment/machinery basics and procedures. A excellent working knowledge of plastic injection machinery/equipment and Finishing equipment.
Experience: Must be previously trained or at least one year in general maintenance. The equivalent in education such as journeyman in at least one of the maintenance or similar disciplines.
Responsibilities: Must be able to understand troubleshoot a variety of machinery, equipment, components structures. Must have a thorough understanding of equipment and machinery. Must possess excellent figure aptitude and arithmetic skills, an ability to work accurately with electrical machinery. A detailed knowledge of mechanical safe practices, a willingness to work overtime, abnormal hours and weekends as necessary, must have a detailed knowledge of mechanical practices and machinery supplies/inventory.
Independent Judgment: Semi-Regular. Uses when troubleshooting, working on equipment, diagnosing problems, and suggested solutions. Works with little supervision and has to make some autonomous decisions.
Quality: Follows regulatory, company, and departmental procedures implicitly. In the execution of the job function the Machine Repair - Maintenance must focus on the quality aspect of all maintenance activities. Each assigned activity has at least an indirect if not direct impact on the profitability of the company. Doing the fob right the first time and in a timely manner is important to meeting management expectations. The Machine Repair – Maintenance is involved with the quality of the maintenance department. It should always be a goal to achieve zero defects on each job. Material loss as well as time loss must be minimized at all times. Quality is the number one priority.
PHYSICAL EXERTION:
Routinely requires working in close quarters, beneath machines and equipment and in uncomfortable positions. Requires climbing and working with heights on occasion. Constant movements of wrists and shoulders, legs, waist and back; uses hand – eye coordination on a regular basis, uses a high degree of precision and attention to prevent injury to self and others, must work with and around heat and dusts; is constantly exposed to danger from high voltage electricity.

Wire crimpers, knife(s), screw drivers, hammer, wrenches, pry bars, voltage meters and regulators, calibrators, electrical/electronic testing devices, conduits, wiring, pipes, carpentry tools, pencils, tow motors, rulers, measuring devices, saws, vacuums, cover plates, locks, tags, lift truck platforms, ladders, paper, forms, overhead cranes and hoists, light bulbs, florescent lights, calculators, eye protection. Must have own hand tools.
ATTENDANCE:
Must be in attendance on a regular, full-time basis and conform to all Company Attendance Policies. Due to the limited numbers in this classification, attendance is of the utmost importance. Must be willing and available to work other shifts and overtime (including weekends) as necessary/required.
