About The Role

This role involves developing and delivering an engaging and challenging art curriculum for gifted and talented students in grades K-8. The ideal candidate will inspire and nurture artistic expression, creativity, and critical thinking among our students, fostering a love for the visual arts.

Key Responsibilities

  • Develop and implement a comprehensive and innovative art curriculum tailored to the needs and abilities of gifted and talented students.
  • Teach a variety of art techniques, including drawing, painting, sculpture, digital art, and mixed media, while encouraging students to explore and develop their unique artistic voices.
  • Foster a supportive and inclusive classroom environment that promotes creativity, self-expression, and collaboration.
  • Guide students in the creation of individual and group art projects, exhibitions, and presentations.
  • Integrate art history and contemporary art practices into lessons to provide context and inspire students.
  • Assess and evaluate student progress, providing constructive feedback and support to help students achieve their artistic potential.
  • Maintain and manage art supplies, materials, and equipment, ensuring a safe and organized classroom environment.
  • Collaborate with other teachers and staff to integrate art into interdisciplinary projects and school-wide events.
  • Encourage students to participate in local, regional, and national art competitions and exhibitions.
  • Communicate effectively with parents and guardians about students’ progress and artistic development.


Employment Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Art Education, Fine Arts, or a related field.
  • Previous experience teaching art to elementary and middle school students, particularly those who are gifted and talented, is highly desirable.
  • Strong knowledge of various art techniques, materials, and history.
  • Excellent classroom management skills and the ability to motivate and inspire students.
  • Strong organizational and planning skills.
  • Effective communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to work collaboratively with colleagues and contribute to a positive school culture.
  • Passion for the arts and a commitment to nurturing the artistic talents of gifted students.


Work Schedule and Location

  • Part-time - 10-15 hours per week
  • Rockville, MD - On-site


Compensation

  • Compensation: $40-$45/hour depending on experience
