Health and Safety Manager

 

Summary 

 

The Health and Safety Manager is responsible for providing leadership across FGF US on health, safety and wellness strategy and supporting initiatives. 

The Health and Safety Manager will be responsible for planning and overseeing the overall health and safety systems and must have a thorough and up to date understanding of health and safety requirements including legal issues. By identifying, managing and promoting continuous improvement in health and safety leadership, the Health and Safety Manager will help lead FGF US to an enhanced culture of safety among our team members and contractors to ensure a safe and injury free workplace.  

 

Primary Responsibilities 

 

  • Provide advice and guidance to on Health and Safety matters across the organization and with our Agency Partners 
  • Understand accident trends from near miss information to support target areas for improvement 
  • Ensure required Health and Safety training is delivered 
  • Provides leadership to develop and implement short- and long-term strategies for achieving Departmental goals 
  • Measures overall H&S performance against Department objectives and goals 
  • Represents FGF on H&S issues to customers, governmental entities, and community organizations 
  • Maintain an up‐to‐date knowledge of environmental issues, policies and trends and communicate that knowledge to senior executive leadership teams as appropriate. 
  • Provide strong leadership and effective mentorship, coaching, and guidance to the Health and Safety and     Health and Wellness leaders and teams. 
  • Model effective change management sponsorship, influence, and principles for successful and sustained integration and cultural adoption. 
  • Develop, implement and manage FGF Occupational Safety Management System to promote awareness, reduce hazards and prevent injuries and loss. Proactively identify safety issues and work with leadership to implement problem-solving strategies 
  • Develop, communicate, implement and managed documented initiatives, ensuring a uniform message is delivered to all locations 
  • Ensure all H&S policies, procedures and practices meet or exceed legal, company and customer requirements 
  • Initiate and conduct trend analysis, provide findings, solutions, coaching and communicate shared learnings 
  • Be available to resolve issues and spend time coaching on the production floor 
  • Monitor changes to H&S regulations, assess these changes for business impact, and communicate necessary procedural changes to internal stakeholders accordingly 
  • Be up to date with new legislation and maintain a working knowledge of all H&S legislation and any developments that affect FGF 
  • Oversee the investigation and resolution of incidents including root-cause analysis and provide probable causes of incidents and recommendations for resolution and appropriate corrective and preventative measure, ensuring timely and effective resolution of any and all issues arising from such situations in order to minimize the impact to the business and to team members 
  • Promote and provide proactive guidance and knowledge regarding H&S awareness, best practices and initiatives  
  • Additional duties may be assigned 

 

 

Required Experience 

 

  • Formal education in health and safety field 
  • 5 - 7 years of professional experience in similar positions in leading Health and Safety management systems 
  • Comprehensive knowledge and expertise of H&S legislation, occupational H&S compliance requirements. 
  • Expertise and knowledge of best-in-class health and safety programs, standards, processes and requirements, risk assessment processes and techniques and training in hazard recognition, assessment, and control. 
  • Strong people leadership capabilities with effective change management experience and demonstrated ability to lead and influence cultural and organizational transformation. 
  • Previous experience with Workers’ Compensation, Safety Groups, PSR, Risk Assessment, MOL, Training and Development
