The Department of Teaching Innovation and Learning Technologies (TILT) at FHSU is seeking an Instructional Designer to join our team. This role offers the opportunity to work with faculty in designing and developing engaging online courses. Reporting to the Assistant Provost for Teaching Innovation and Learning Technologies, the Instructional Designer will collaborate with faculty to enhance instructional strategies for both physical and virtual learning environments.
This position is available as either an on-campus role in Hays, Kansas, or as a remote position for qualified candidates.
Minimum Qualifications:
- Master's degree in Education, Technology, or a related field
- At least 2 years of teaching or related experience
- Strong technical aptitude and willingness to learn new technologies quickly
- Excellent interpersonal and communication skills
- Demonstrated ability to work collaboratively with diverse colleagues
- Basic familiarity with learning management systems (e.g., Blackboard Learn)
- Proven ability to learn and adapt to new concepts and technologies rapidly
Preferred Qualifications:
- Two or more years of experience in instructional design or educational technology
- Knowledge of instructional design theories and models (e.g., ADDIE, Bloom's Taxonomy)
- Online teaching experience in higher education
- Experience with learning design tools and platforms
- Basic understanding of accessibility requirements in online learning
Key Responsibilities:
- Consult with faculty to integrate appropriate technology into their courses
- Design and develop engaging online learning activities and assessments
- Support faculty through various stages of course development
- Apply instructional design principles to enhance learning experiences
- Assist in evaluating and implementing new educational technologies
- Contribute to ongoing quality improvement in online and blended learning

- Willingness to learn and adapt to new technologies and pedagogical approaches
- Effective communication with both technical and non-technical audiences
