Atco Products, a business unit of Fidelis Holdings, LCC located in Ferris, Texas, is an IATF16949/ISO9001 Certified tubing/hose assembly manufacturer of high-quality automotive and heavy-duty truck components and assemblies. Both original equipment suppliers and aftermarket customers have relied on Atco Products to meet their OE production components and in/out of warranty service and parts requirements for more than 50 years.
POSITION SUMMARY:
As the Manufacturing Engineering Manager, you will plan, direct, and coordinates the activities of the tooling, and engineering departments, facilitating efficient manufacturing operations across the organization. You will be leading activities setting up new equipment, managing the workflow for a production project, and ensuring efficiency during the process. You are also responsible for supervising staff. You will oversee the development and implementation of manufacturing processes to maintain proper product functionality as well as cost efficiency. Ensure the engineering team and other manufacturing departments work together cohesively. Support the daily production operations resolving production issues and process improvements.
PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES:
• Maintain and foster a safe work environment.
• Review, evaluate and implement engineering changes and specification requirements.
• Manage the engineering staff in the day-to-day performance of their jobs.
• Ensure that the project/departmental milestones/goals are met and adhering to approved budgets.
• Collaborate in maintaining TS16949/ISO9001 accreditation.
• Identify the training requirements to meet development goals for the department.
• Recommend and implement improvements and/or modifications in production/assembly processes, equipment utilization, and related matters.
• Responsible for all phases of assigned standard engineering projects, ensuring the successful conclusion of all phases within an appropriate time and at the appropriate cost.
• Implement process improvements to meet quality standards, performs feasibility studies and solves problems.
• Design and plans layout for such processes as tube cutting, preforming, bending, drilling, machining, and other material-processing operations.
• Review customer product design for compliance with engineering principles, company standards and internal requirements. Direct integration of technical activities and products.
• Evaluate and approves design changes, specifications and drawing releases.
• Under general direction, responsible for the completion of assigned engineering projects within budgetary and scheduling guidelines.
• Direct all phases of programs from inception through completion.
• Responsible for the cost, schedule and technical performance of site initiatives or subsystems of major programs.
• Coordinate the preparation of proposals, business plans, proposal work statements and specifications, operating budgets and financial terms/conditions of contract.
• Lead teams in the development of new products, solutions, and processes.
• Oversee project logistics and resource allocation.
• Strive to improve efficiency and sustainability of processes, and to reduce waste.
• Secure the resources needed, including researching and proposing capital investments.
• Assure that processes meet quality and safety compliance guidelines.
• Collaborates with other team leaders and departments.
• Assist in developing plant layout in planning rearrangement of facilities, equipment and operations for better utilization of space.
• Stay informed concerning new manufacturing technologies and equipment in order to manufacture and reduce cost through efficiencies.
• Develop, maintain and enhance tooling and fixtures used in the production processes.
• Participate in continuous improvement projects such as yield, cycle times, set up times, MTBF, scrap, etc., to enhance the capability of new and existing processes and to remove waste.
• Responsible for the attainment of the plant budget as it related to the engineering department and technical areas.
• Contributes to the development and monitoring of area budget through regular analysis of cost and spending.
• Provide technical inputs to bids for new business and facilitate successful outcomes.
• Analyze and improve material usage.
• Ensure accuracy of Production Engineering procedures and documentation.
• Perform other duties as assigned.
Supervisory Responsibilities
• Hires and trains quality assurance staff.
• Oversees the daily workflow and schedules of the department.
• Conducts performance evaluations that are timely and constructive.
• Handles discipline and termination of employees in accordance with company policy.
• Lead the departmental budget planning process.
• Motivate and coach the team to operational success.
• Review, implement and update company records, training matrices, performance reviews, risk assessments.
• Set department objectives/KPIs and review and assess ongoing performance of direct reports.
QUALIFICATIONS:

EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE:
• Bachelor’s degree, preferably in the engineering field of study.
• A minimum of 5 years of progressive leadership experience in a manufacturing environment.
• In depth knowledge and experience of Failure Mode and Effect Analysis (FMEA), Advanced Product Quality Planning (APQP), Production Part Approval Process (PPAP), and Lean Manufacturing techniques such as Six Sigma.
• IATF16949 or ISO9001 experience.
• Experience in working with customers and suppliers.
• Problem-solving tools and process improvement methodologies.
• Preferable experience with automotive/heavy truck industry.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, & ABILITIES:
• Comfortable with reading and speaking technical English.
• Ability to read, analyze, and interpret standard scientific and technical documents and engineering drawings, including GD&T.
• Ability to respond to common inquiries or complaints from customers, coworkers, and employees.
• Ability to write reports, procedures, and programs that will enhance the profitability and reliability of the company. Ability to effectively lead and present quality information to top management, coworkers, customers, and/or boards of directors.
