Role
The Vice President, Planning & Strategy will be responsible for providing strategic planning, coordination and support to Fidelity Charitable’s management team while reporting directly to the Head of Finance. The Vice President will organize and run weekly senior staff meetings and play a meaningful role in supporting a variety of planning efforts. Key efforts include periodic facilitation of strategic investment prioritization, annual planning of investment spending and acting as a liaison to the extended leadership team, all while ensuring stakeholders are informed regularly and on an ad-hoc basis. This position will also collaborate or run projects requested by a variety of internal partners. These projects can range from workforce planning, cost/benefit case review and collaboration, functional planning, incremental spend coordination and initial prioritization against strategic plans and ongoing business needs.
Overall, the role involves supporting the development, coordination, summarization and communication of strategic plans for Fidelity Charitable. For clarity, this role is not responsible for setting strategy or originating initiatives.
Expertise and Skills You Bring
Responsible for leading the coordination, management, measurement and communication of Fidelity Charitable’s strategic plans (annual and multi-year).
Manage development of business goals and targets to evaluate progress against plan (in partnership with Finance). Develop, cascade and coordinate related reporting for both the executive scorecard and functional scorecards.
Support development, coordination, and management of ongoing Quarterly Business Review (“QBR”) presentations and related quarterly and weekly highlights/summaries needed from Enterprise Services along with strategic and executive updates.
Play a lead role in running Fidelity Charitable’s Operating Committee (a group of Fidelity Charitable functional representatives), through coordination with senior management and the finance team to evaluate potential future investments and initiatives.
Lead the development of planning calendars, strategic meetings and off-sites, prioritization activities and weekly senior staff agenda topics (accountable for summarization of key points, running meetings and action item tracking).
Act as a liaison to the extended leadership team through planning, coordinating and hosting informative and interactive planning sessions. Ensure that strategic planning efforts are informed by this critical feedback loop, while keeping the extended leaders aligned on the latest strategy and decision making.
Partner with Fidelity Charitable senior leaders to support planning, activity development and facilitation of strategic offsites and executive meetings. Lead the creation of agendas, desired outcomes and influence the direction of discussions, while encouraging straight-forward debate to enable teams to work better together and drive better outcomes.
Support, coordinate and take accountability for ad-hoc strategic presentations and/or projects (often directly for Fidelity Charitable’s President or senior leadership team members) to other business units, Fidelity Charitable’s Trustees, Fidelity senior management, regional leadership or other groups as necessary; working cross-functionally to determine and develop appropriate content, messaging and presentation. Lead and own the process start to finish).
Undergraduate degree required; MBA or relevant master's degree preferred
Minimum of 15-20 years of career experience, which should include a successful record of accomplishment of developing business strategy, financial modeling and analysis, business planning and demonstrated execution and success of strategies and plans within business.
Vice President level experience in business planning preferred
Success in providing information and direction to senior leadership for decision making
Demonstrated ability to work with ambiguity and sophisticated strategic analysis projects
North Carolina regional location is a requirement
Seasoned leader with outstanding interpersonal and communication skills, both verbal and written, and exhibits confidence or is comfortable presenting to senior executives. Can navigate complex relationships, forge critical partnerships, influence effectively and develop solutions which result in mutually beneficial outcomes.
Strong analytical and project management skills
Ability to strive in an execution-focused individual contributor role
Self-starter who is able to bring together diverse perspectives and drive action and desired outcomes
Ability to influence without direct reporting authority across multiple teams and levels
Effective communication (written, verbal and PowerPoint storytelling)

Excellent relationship building and high-emotional intelligence
Must bring flawless hands-on execution and results in role of organizational navigator and collaborator.
Experience with several business units at Fidelity is a plus
