SUMMARY 

The Cesar Chavez Environmental Corps (CCEC) is a division of the Farmworkers Institute of Education and Leadership Development (FIELD). FIELD is a 501(c)3 nonprofit organization founded in 1978 by Farmworker leader Cesar E. Chavez, and is dedicated to strengthening America’s agricultural and rural communities through our Core Values of Opportunity, Excellence, Integrity, Innovation and Si Se Puede. FIELD carries out its mission through a continuum of educational and workforce development programs that assist underserved communities in achieving empowerment, self-sufficiency, and a better quality of life. FIELD has realigned our training and education to promote career pathways for adult learners. This includes work experience opportunities in Environmental Conservation, Energy, Education, Entrepreneurship and Civic Action.


DEFINITION

The Senior Supervisors primary duties are to provide leadership and support to Supervisors and Corpsmembers to help fulfill the mission of FIELD/CCEC.


ESSENTIAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES include, but are not limited to the following. Other related duties and responsibilities may be assigned. 

  • Performs all the functions of a Supervisor as needed 
  • Provide leadership over CCEC Supervisors 
  • Maintains confidentiality on all personnel matters 
  • Administer schedules for CCEC Supervisors 
  • Oversee the daily activities of Supervisors and set target project goals 
  • Assist supervisors in organizing logistics and provide field support 
  • Provide quality control of projects 
  • Track project time-lines 
  • Assist in corpsmember policy enforcement 
  • Review supervisor reports (mileage logs, attendance, corpsmember timesheets) 
  • Ensure safe worksites and practices 
  • Ensure the safe use of equipment and materials and the use of safe working methods, techniques, and procedures 
  • Conduct safety trainings for supervisors and corpsmembers


SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES 

The Senior Supervisor receives an administrative directive from the Natural Resources Manager or designated authority and supervises and evaluates Natural Resources Supervisors and Natural Resources Corpsmembers.


JOB QUALIFICATIONS /REQUIREMENTS:

Knowledge of:

  • Principles of employee supervision, discipline and evaluation
  • Must have a strong understanding of Conservation Corps activities
  • Must be able to effectively utilize a chainsaw, various hand tools, fencing equipment, and trail building tools

Skills:

  • Must have a competent level of computer skills (Microsoft Office Suite/Google)
  • Interpersonal skills, including use of tact, diplomacy, patience, and courtesy
  • Interpersonal - Demonstrate sensitivity, understanding, and the ability to effectively interact with individuals (internal and external) from diverse cultural, socioeconomic, disability and ethnic backgrounds  
  • Correct English usage, including grammar, spelling, punctuation and vocabulary
  • Effective problem solving
  • Organizing and Planning- Ability to structure tasks, establish priorities and set goals for Supervisors and Corpsmembers

Ability to:

  • Plan, coordinate, direct, and evaluate the Supervisors and Corpsmembers
  • Demonstrate professionalism and work ethics 
  • Demonstrate a positive attitude, self-discipline, and self-awareness   
  • Diagnose and take corrective action in problem areas that might develop
  • Prioritize and schedule work; be flexible and able to adjust daily routines as necessary
  • Meet needed schedules and timelines
  • Conduct effective program evaluations
  • Must be able to be physically engaged, lifting, pushing, pulling, etc. of 50 pounds repeatedly, independently and throughout your entire work shift
  • Must be able and willing to participate in spikes where you may camp outdoors or lodge in primitive conditions for periods of time up to eight (8) days
  • Must be able to conduct company vehicles (Drivers are subject to random unannounced drug and alcohol testing.) 


EDUCATION

    • High School Diploma is required
  • Associates or Bachelor’s Degree in either Urban Forestry, Environmental Conservation, Community Development preferred


EXPERIENCE REQUIRED:

  • Minimum one (1) year experience in a supervisory position
  • Minimum of three (3) years conservation corps or related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience required


MANDATORY REQUIREMENTS:

  • Valid California Driver License
  • Must have approval from Insurance Carrier to operate company vehicle
  • Must have a spot free driving record for at least 2 years


CERTIFICATIONS:

  • OSHA Safety Training preferred, but not required
  • First Aid/CPR certificate, preferred, but not required


TRAVEL REQUIREMENTS

  • Must be able to travel as needed/required
  • Traveling up to 70% required
  • Must be able and willing to participate in spikes where you may camp outdoors or lodge in primitive conditions for periods of time, up to eight (8) days at a time


LANGUAGE SKILLS 

  • Bilingual preferred, but not required

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly exposed to outside conditions (extreme heat and cold, wildlife, steep incline/uneven grounds, etc.) and warehouse environment. Driving a CCEC vehicle to conduct work; driving a vehicle during adverse weather conditions; working around machinery having moving parts and vehicles. Regular exposure to fumes (including fumes from vehicle and equipment operation), dust, gasses, and odors. Exposure to cleaning agents, chemicals, skin irritants, and electric shock. Must be able to enter bodies of water such as lakes, creeks, channels, rivers, etc. 



PHYSICAL DEMANDS

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to use hands to finger, handle, and/or feel. The employee frequently is required to stand, sit, and reach with hands and arms. The employee is regularly required to walk and stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl. The employee must frequently lift and/or move up to 20 pounds and occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 pounds. Must be able to climb stairs and ladders. May be required to hike up to six (6) miles, or more as required. Consistent mental alertness; sitting or standing for extended periods of time. Ability to see for purposes of driving CCEC vehicles including depth perception. Requires hearing sufficient to be aware of traffic and road distractions/conditions and listen to passengers.
