POSITION SUMMARY

Certified to operate hydraulic crane to lift and move materials, machines, or products in many directions.


ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Determine load weights and check them against lifting capacities to prevent overload.
  • Operate cranes, cherry pickers or other moving equipment for lifting, moving, or placing loads.
  • Clean, lubricate, and maintain mechanisms such as cables.
  • Inspect crane mechanisms or lifting accessories to prevent malfunctions or damage.
  • Direct helpers engaged in placing blocking or out rigging under cranes.
  • Perform other duties, such as helping out with critical lifts, crane moves, signaling, etc.
  • Regular, timely, and predictable attendance is required for this position.
  • Perform other duties as determined and required by project need.

EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS

  • Applicable NCCCO certification for the type of crane you will operate
  • Current D.O.T. physical card
  • Minimum 3 years of experience operating cranes
  • Minimum 2 years working with concrete as a carpenter or crane operator
  • Minimum 2 years working with steel as a carpenter or crane operator

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES REQUIREMENTS

  • Extensive knowledge in filling out daily inspections, lift plans, and critical lift plans
  • Must be reliable with technical competency, attendance, and work ethic.
  • Must understand and read load charts.
  • Ability to watch gauges, dials, or other indicators to make sure a machine is working properly.
  • Ability to use logic and reasoning to identify alternative solutions or approaches to problems.
  • Ability to talk to others to convey information effectively.
  • Ability to quickly and repeatedly adjust the controls of a machine or a vehicle to exact positions.
  • Ability to coordinate two or more limbs (for example, two arms, two legs, or one leg and one arm) while sitting, standing.
  • Ability to judge which of several objects is closer or farther away from you, or to judge the distance between you and an object.
  • Ability to time your movements or the movement of a piece of equipment in anticipation of changes in the speed and/or direction of a moving object or scene.
  • Ability to quickly respond (with the hand, finger, or foot) to a signal (sound, light, picture) when it appears.
  • Ability to choose quickly between two or more movements in response to two or more different signals (lights, sounds, pictures). It includes the speed with which the correct response is started with the hand, foot, or other body part.

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to sit, talk and/or hear. Safety requirements necessitate no language barrier exist between employees and supervisors. The employee is frequently required to use hands to finger, handle, or feel. The employee is required to reach with hands and arms. The employee is required to climb, balance, stoop, kneel, crouch and/or crawl. The employee must also lift and/or move up to 100 pounds. The employee may be required to lift heavy objects in awkward positions that require flexible range of motion. Specific vision abilities include close vision and peripheral vision. The employee is also required to frequently inspect the project and will be exposed to ongoing construction and various weather conditions, including rain, sleet, snow, wind, and heat. The noise level in the work environment may range from moderate to loud. The employee is also required to frequently walk on uneven surfaces.


Hazards: May be exposed to extremes of heat and cold as well as certain unsafe environments; occasionally works near moving equipment and mechanical parts and electrical equipment; possible exposure to fumes or airborne particles; possible exposure to internal liquids. This is a safety sensitive position where a momentary lapse of attention can result in serious injury or death. The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate and occasionally very loud. Must follow all safety requirements carefully.
