SUMMARY: The Sr. Investment Officer will manage high net worth clients typically one million and higher and the largest relationships and is responsible for overseeing the department’s investment strategies. These include the more complex, higher risk portfolios that may include committees with strategies led by a board-approved Investment Statement Policy. Oversee the investment processes in totality giving recommendations and trade ideas to the investment team. Manage portfolio construction, asset weightings, concentrations, security ratings and overall investment risk. Also, create and monitor modeled assets including timing of portfolio rebalances. Duties include policy knowledge and incorporating various strategies to meet client’s goals and expected results. Responsible for managing and growing knowledge and abilities of the Investment team. Cultivate, enhance, and train team and put them in position to gain training and certifications. Work with not only trust employees, but bank employees to gain asset growth. This includes joining local organizations and consistently meeting with centers of influences within the community. This may include working with marketing and executives to strategize on ideas for growth. The position assists in establishment of short- and long-range plans and policies for the profitable operation and growth of the department; serves trust customers and carries out fiduciary responsibilities in accordance with applicable laws, regulations, and department policies. Actively builds new trust business and enhances the position of the bank in the community. Must work with and assist the investment team in totality of the investment process and adhere to the prudent investor rules and regulations.
EDUCATION and EXPERIENCE:
  • Bachelor’s degree in business, finance or related field or equivalent experience, education, or related training
  • At least 7 – 10 years previous Investment related experience with trusts, estates, and individual investment accounts with a focus on trust/fiduciary management and alternative investments, including manager research and due diligence
  • Demonstrated capability of producing and increasing bank customer business or experience managing a customer portfolio
  • Prior high net worth client experience or private banking experience
  • Strong communication and decision-making skills
  • Proven presentation and organizational skills
  • Experience with Value Line, Morningstar, or financial planning software.
  • While not required, various professional certifications support the ability to successfully fill this position. (i.e. AFIM, CFP, or CFA or comparable designation)
  • Proficient with Excel, Word, and PowerPoint
ESSENTIAL DUTIES and RESPONSIBILITIES:
  • Review, analyze, and provide input regarding the investment strategy for individual portfolios considering client’s cash flow needs, tax implications, and current and long-term market conditions.
  • Work with administration to help monitor maturing and called securities, investing available cash as received per the account’s investment objective.
  • Direct and oversee the periodic reallocation of accounts using the department’s investment models.
    • Periodically review assets, analyze stocks and mutual funds, and maintain a “master list” for the department.
  • Attend periodic meetings, reviewing accounts to confirm proper asset allocation as identified and the investment objective is being met per the current and planned investment structure.
  • Instill confidence in clients via strong communication skills and the ability to convey rationale for the account investment strategy, with supporting data analysis.
  • Ensure that the terms and conditions of each trust account are adhered.
  • Ensure that all annual investment reviews are performed properly.
  • Oversee compliance with applicable trust laws and federal and state fiduciary regulations on customer accounts.
  • Successful resolution of day-to-day questions and concerns from clients and beneficiaries.
  • Discuss financial options with customers and assist in financial plan of action for investment purposes.
  • Assist in research for buying, selling, and overall portfolio management.
  • Attend seminars and various training to help depth and knowledge in the industry and also to meet and build peer relationships.
  • Assist with presentation materials for prospects/current clients and various meetings.
  • Assist Trust Officers in investment-related activities, including customer contact and business development.
  • Assist with board report preparation and monthly market commentaries as needed.
  • Be able to assist with major presentations including board reports and RFP opportunities.
  • Write and work with marketing/compliance to provide monthly/quarterly newsletters to existing clients and prospects.
  • Promote and enhance Field and Main’s culture and foster the development and implementation of organizational policies and guidelines.
  • Represent the financial institution in community affairs and civic organizations.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, and ABILITIES:
  • Knowledge of fiduciary investing process using the prudent man rule in alignment with company’s policies and procedures.
  • Previous experience working in a team environment.
  • Extensive knowledge of investing and the ability to communicate key concepts in understandable terms to clients, beneficiaries, attorneys, and other interested parties.
  • Extensive knowledge and understanding of differences between individual, trust, and IRA accounts, and associated rules and regulations.
  • Knowledge of trusts, estate planning, and compliance with administering trust accounts.
  • Ability to quickly gain the confidence and respect of co-workers and clients.
  • An attitude of exceptional service towards co-workers and clients.
  • General knowledge of income tax laws and implications.
  • Must possess strong Math and/or accounting skills.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Strong attention to detail with the ability to perform multiple tasks in a fast-paced environment.
  • Working with various high-level software, such as performance and trust systems.
  • Ability to use Excel, Word, and PowerPoint.
  • Ability to exercise independent judgment consistent with department guidelines.
