Position Title: Accounting Specialist Department: Accounting
SALARY GRADE: Non-exempt
REPORTING RELATIONSHIPS
Position Reports To: CFO
Positions Supervised: N/A
POSITION PURPOSE
The Accounting Specialist provides general support for the credit union accounting function including accounts payable, accounts receivable, general ledger and support for high level business processes including budgeting, auditing, financial reporting, and analysis.

b. Assist CFO in month end tasks as needed.
c. Other duties as assigned by manager.
Credit Union Employee
a. Ensures work area is clean, secure, and well maintained.
b. Assumes responsibility for related duties as required or assigned.
c. Assists with promotional activities.
d. Participates in credit union committees and special events.
e. Completes special projects as assigned.
Professional Development
d. Ensures the Credit Union’s professional reputation is maintained both internally and externally.
e. Represents the Credit Union in contacts with business and trade professionals.
QUALIFICATIONS
Education/Certification: High School diploma or GED. Associate degree in accounting preferred.
Required Knowledge: Through knowledge of basic accounting principles. Thorough knowledge of credit union products, services, and policies.
Experience Required: 1 year accounting or credit union experience preferred.
Skills/Abilities: Strong communication, problem solving and multitasking skills.
Ability to work in a goal orientated environment.
Good project management abilities.
Well organized and able to meet deadlines.
Able to operate related computer applications and business equipment.
Be nimble to constant change in rules and regulations.
Familiarity with computers and software programs, specifically Excel.
Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
Must be able to keep information confidential.
Ability to perform several tasks concurrently with ease and professionalism.
Ability to operate calculator, computer, and other general office equipment.
Knowledge of computerized accounting but must be able to do manual set of books.
Ability to communicate clearly and concisely in writing.

MENTAL ACTIVITIES AND REQUIREMENTS OF THIS POSITION
Reasoning Ability: Ability to apply logical or scientific thinking to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw conclusions.
Able to interpret a variety of technical instructions and can deal with multiple variables.
Mathematics Ability: Ability to compute discount, interest, profit, and loss; commission markup and selling price; and ratio, proportion, and percentage.
Able to perform very simple algebra.
Language Ability: Ability to read a variety of books, magazines, instruction manuals, atlases, and encyclopedias.
Ability to prepare memos, reports, and essays using proper punctuation, spelling, and grammar.
Ability to communicate distinctly with appropriate pauses and emphasis, correct pronunciation (or sign equivalent), and variation in word order using present, perfect, and future tenses.
