POSITION PURPOSE:
This position is responsible for assisting the CFO in various aspects of the hospital accounting system. This will primarily include accounts payable, general ledger and other financial processing.
QUALIFICATIONS:
- Bachelor's degree in Accounting or related field, or equivalent experience
- Knowledge of generally accepted accounting principals
- Minimum of three years accounting and financial reporting experience
- Experience working in a health care environment preferred

SECURITY/ACCESS:

Essential Job Duties and Responsibilities:
- Coordinates with CFO, payroll staff, and other finance staff to maintain an accurate General Ledger.
- Ensures correct and consistent classification of expenses and revenue.
- Prepares and posts monthly journal entries.
- Assists in ensuring accounts payable coding is accurate.
- Reconciles accounts receivable, inventory, payroll accounts and other accounts as needed.
- Monitors debt service schedules and verifies interest and principal payments.
- Accumulates monthly department statistics and FTEs.
- Utilizes problem-solving skills to diagnose and correct system and human errors.
- Obtains and maintains a thorough understanding of the financial reporting and General Ledger structure.
- Prepares financial reports monthly, annually, and as needed.
- Generates preliminary monthly financial statements and reports for Fillmore County Hospital and Fillmore County Hospital Foundation for CFO review.
- Prepares monthly financial and statistical departmental reports.
- Assists department managers with their responsibility reports, finance, and budgetary questions.
- Helps department managers with cost improvement initiatives and identifying opportunities.
- Maintains the hospital’s property and equipment records, along with depreciation schedules.
- Ensures fixed asset list is accurate, items are added and disposed of timely.
- Tracks property and equipment leases for accurate payment processing.
- Reconciles capital expenditures to GL, budget, and FA schedule.
- Reviews GL transactions for subscriptions and leases (capitalized).
- Participates in the annual budget, audit preparation, and cost reporting.
- Assists in the preparation of reports and data for the audit and cost report.
- Responds in a timely manner to requests and questions from the auditors.
- Planning and preparation for annual budget.
- Assists CFO with special projects.
- Developing accounting and internal control policies and procedures.
- Assist in analyzing revenue, accounts receivable and contractual allowances in coordination with CFO.
- Analyzing payer contracts for actual vs. expected reimbursement.
- Report quarterly KPI data.
- Prepares service line analyses as requested.
- Collecting and analyzing expenses and overall financial activity.
- Follows HIPAA regulations and ensures that the confidentiality of patients medical, personal, financial records, employee records, and organizational records is maintained.
- Participates in FCH committees, quality assurance, performance and quality improvement initiatives, and activities which support the facility and department operations.
- Complies with the state and federal regulatory requirements related to the performance of FCH operations and requirements of the FCH Compliance Program. Including but not limited to:
- The Compliance Policy.
- Completes all mandatory on-line training annually and as assigned.
- All department and organization-wide policies.
- Considers the impact of regulations such as Critical Access Hospital requirements, along with Federal and State of Nebraska regulations and discusses concerns appropriately to ensure compliance.
