What are the responsibilities and job description for the Underwriter IV FAM position at Finance of America Mortgage?
Responsible for evaluating and analyzing all loan packages including credit and collateral documentation to ensure investment quality loan product. Ensures that loan request and financial documents meet all required conditions. Exercises discretion and utilizes exceptional analytical abilities to detect discrepancies in documentation and/or information while following all company standards and escalating any issues according to the company prescribed process.
EXPECTATIONS
- Evaluates and analyzes all loan packages including credit and collateral documentation to ensure investment quality loan product and seeks feedback from appraisal department on any questionable collateral.
- In partnership with loan originators, works to assist in structuring loans to ensure salability of package.
- Checks accuracy of all calculations and analyzes income utilizing personal and/or corporate tax returns of all borrowers.
- Consults with processing and funding department(s) to ensure all underwriting conditions are met prior to loan closing.
- Assists with curing deficiencies in loan files as a result of failure to meet investor, FHA, VA, repurchase and/or Company guidelines.
- Maintains accuracy and competency in utilizing the Company’s system of record for automated underwriting of loan files.
- Utilizes and complies with all automated underwriting certifications for any loans approved in system.
- Communicates loan decisions both verbally and in writing in format approved by Company.
- Exercises discretion and utilizes exceptional analytical abilities to detect discrepancies in documentation and/or information in order to protect Company from fraudulent practices.
- Responsible for prudent and timely underwriting of loans in accordance with Company and investor guidelines by ensuring that Company turn times are met and/or exceeded.
- Signs off on conditions in accordance with policies and procedures as set by credit officer.
- May perform appraisal reviews and work closely with in house appraisal staff to perform secondary/desk reviews.
- Responds timely to all audits and maintains acceptable post funding audit results within specific tolerance levels.
- Regularly attends and participates in departmental meetings.
- Remains up to date and informed on all government regulations and requirements as well as Company guidelines and overlays.
- Works closely with underwriting management to resolve questions/issues.
- Escalates issues within the Company prescribed process.
- Follows the Company standards for delivery of integrity, client focus, teamwork and respect for each individual in every interaction.
- Exhibits observable sense of urgency in the execution of all job functions and duties.
- Meets or exceeds levels of Customer Service delivery established by the Company.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
EDUCATION - REQUIRED
- High School Diploma
EDUCATION - PREFERRED
- BA - Bachelor of Arts
EXPERIENCE/SKILLS
- A minimum of 10 years experience as an Underwriter
- 10 years of experience with DE and VA/LAPP preferred
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office suite of products
- Excellent communication skills, verbal, written and presentation
- Current knowledge of industry guidelines and procedures as well as federal, state and local regulations
- Knowledge of mortgage underwriting
- Analytical skills
