Job Title: Technical Writer
Department: Project Management
Reports to: Senior Project Manager
Hours per Week: Salary Exempt
Salary Range: $61,000-$75,000 Bonus
Position Summary:
Creates an effective and positive workplace by contributing to easy communication and understanding of policies and procedures. Works both collaboratively and independently to create, merge, and communicate content to Financial Plus employees in a way that is easily understandable and logical.
Essential Functions & Responsibilities:
- Responsible for revising and ensuring accurate information for the Intranet.
- Stay current on professional and credit union industry regulations, reporting requirements, auditing procedures, and general accounting principles or auditing techniques, by attending continuing education classes, webinars, as well as reading professional periodicals/journals.
- Interpret and merge information from multiple sources to form a document for a determined target audience on what the information suggests and potential next steps.
- Generate solutions to company problems and contribute innovative ideas on improvements to company procedures overall.
- Writes and edits technical documents including reference manuals and product manuals.
- Writes and edits procedural documentation such as user guides and manuals.
- Determines the type of publication that will best serve the project requirements.
- Meets with department line managers, programmers, and project managers to learn about specific products or processes.
- Researches product samples to fully understand product.
- Assesses the audience needs for whom the technical and procedural documentation is intended; adjusts tone and technical terms used to meet those needs and to ensure understanding.
- Plans writing processes and sets timelines and deadlines.
- Creates or works with graphic designers to create diagrams, charts, and other visual aids to assist readers in understanding a product or process.
- Gathers feedback from team members to improve technical documents.
Performance Measurements:
- Ensure the credit union has adequate internal controls and practices in place.
- Provide informed, professional and accurate service and support to all members and associates.
- Develop and maintain knowledge of current laws, regulations and common practices in the internal audit field.
- Perform duties, responsibilities, and accountabilities in accordance with Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP) and/or Generally Accepted Auditing Standards (GAAS) for credit unions.
- Demonstrate behaviors consistent with the Financial Plus CU core philosophy and values.
Requirements
Education and Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree in English, Communications, Technical Writing, or Related Field
- Minimum 2 years of similar or related experience
- Project Management experience is a plus
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills
- Excellent writing and grammatical skills
- Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail
- Ability to present complex data in clear, concise text
- Ability to meet deadlines and to work independently
- Ability to edit and proofread work of colleagues
- Ability to work with all levels of employees and present comprehensive presentations to both large and small groups
- Proficient with Microsoft Office Suite or related software
