Essential Functions
- Underwrites residential mortgage loan requests that binds bank for commitment.
- Recommends improvements to institution's residential lending policies and procedures.
- Evaluate loan risks through application information and request additional information as necessary.
- Verify application information against loan criteria guidelines and standards
- Make loan eligibility decisions and approving or rejecting application.
- Ensure compliance with company policies and guidelines.
- Document and effectively communicate reasons for the approval/denial of loans.
- Respond to questions, queries and requests with suitable information.
- Evaluate residential mortgage loans risk on timely basis based on sound underwriting decisions.
- Provide prompt, quality service to originating branches and correspondents professionally.
- Upgrade information or processing and underwriting systems to verify, add, delete or waive conditions.
- Underwrite all conventional and jumbo loans to delegated authority.
- Underwrite FHA and USDA loans (if designation and authority permitted).
- Respond to product questions and scenarios with suitable answers.
- Provide superior customer service with innovative and creative solutions.

Minimum Qualifications
- High School Diploma or equivalent
- Minimum of 3 years' experience in Residential Mortgage Processing or Underwriting required.
- Must have a full working knowledge of Conventional agency underwriting and selling guidelines.
- Must have a full working knowledge of FHA and USDA underwriting and selling guidelines if designated to underwrite FHA and USDA loans.
- VA and RD experience is preferred but not required.
- Must have strong communication skills, both verbal and written.
- Must have the ability to review documents within corporate time-frame with a low error rate.
- Must be well organized and have the ability to multi-task.
- Must be able to assess risk.
- Must have the ability to determine if submitted conditions are acceptable and offer alternative suggestions as needed.
- Must have a complete working knowledge of agency automated underwriting.
- Must have basic computer knowledge.
- Ability to review complex loans (jumbos, self-employed borrowers).
- Have working knowledge of agency automated underwriting systems.
- Must have the ability to traditionally underwrite a file.
- Highly preferred government underwriting experience with DE certification.
- Extended hours sitting and performing computer tasks may be required.
