Description:
The Praise Band/Worship Leader of First United Methodist Church of Holland will play a vital role in the weekend worship experience and the ongoing excellence of a relevant, dynamic, and welcoming worship ministry. This leader is one who will help inspire the congregation and music leadership to dive deeper into relationship with Christ and to foster worship programming that inspires and welcomes all into worship.
Visionary:
The primary role of the Praise Band/Worship Leader will be to develop and implement a worship program—aligned with the vision and mission of the church—for the music groups that lead the contemporary worship service. As a visionary for the musicians of the contemporary service, the Praise Band/Worship Leader will be responsible for developing new and creative approaches and resources necessary for effective worship within the scope of the spiritual direction set by the leadership team of the church. Ultimately, this person will be tasked with the development of volunteers and enabling others “to do and lead” in the church.
Preferred Skills:
- Proficiency with instrument related to contemporary worship (acoustic guitar, electric guitar, keyboard, etc.)
- Proficiency with and/or willingness to learn current media technologies (Planning Center, Ableton, MultiTracks, ProPresenter, etc.)
- Vocal leadership strength and willingness to lead music in the traditional worship service
- Passion for worship leadership
- Focus on musician recruitment and development
- Understanding of current music and worship trends
- Leadership ability, participating in group settings as a team player
- Overall understanding of the field of church music
Typical Weekly Responsibilities:
- Attend worship planning meeting
- Attend staff meeting (if available)
- Time spent in development of worship musical elements (music key selection, tracks, worship speaking parts, etc.)
- Lead contemporary worship service rehearsal
- Lead vocals in the traditional worship service
- Lead the praise band in the contemporary service
Compensation and Hours:
- Hours are equivalent to 1/4 time employment
- 10–12 hours a week
- Holidays throughout the year (Christmas, Ash Wednesday, Easter, etc.)
- 1 full week paid vacation time (to include a maximum of 2 Sundays per year)
- Salary: $10,000 per year
- 90 day evaluation period after hiring (to be conducted by the Director of Worship Arts and Technology and Lead Pastor)
- Employment is consistent with the state of Michigan categorization of non-exempt employment
