Salary Range

$100,000.00 To $130,000.00

A Brief Overview

The Database Administrator II will be responsible for supporting multiple development and production Microsoft SQL databases by performing such tasks as backups, enforcing security policies, troubleshooting performance issues, and deploying project scripts. They will participate in project meetings to ensure database best practices are considered. A successful candidate will be able to understand and apply database principles in the support of the development and production environments.

What you will do

• Install, configure and patch multiple versions of Microsoft SQL (MS SQL Server 2012, 2014, 2016, 2019)
• Maintain databases by monitoring and tuning performance variables, such as CPU, memory utilization, and various instance parameters for on-prem and cloud environments.
• Implement High-Availability solutions including: Always On Availability Groups (AOAG), traditional Microsoft clustering, Database mirroring, and Log Shipping.
• Create physical databases using sound principles; ensure flexibility in managing I/O and in scaling databases.
• Implement, test, and maintain backup procedures for all databases; ensure retention of data to satisfy legal requirements.
• Manage the restoration and recovery of databases in the event of hardware or software failures or disasters.

• Participate in logical model design with application developers.
• With minimal supervision, perform ongoing database security management.
• Create and maintain scripts (T-SQL, PowerShell)
• Monitor vendor websites for bugs and security alerts; apply patches and patch-sets as needed.
• Troubleshoot data and database problems; coordinate resolution with internal technical resources and vendors.
• Research, test, and recommend tools related to database administration.
• Balance multiple projects and multiple tasks while meeting agreed upon objectives.
• Monitor ServiceNow ticket queue and implement ticket requests.
• Assist with technology audit requests.
• Communicate with management on the status of projects and problem resolution efforts.
• Document processes and procedures in Confluence.
• Undertake high priority projects utilizing Agile principals while monitoring a SQL JIRA board and working assigned cards.
• Support 24x7 mission critical production environment and participate in production On-Call rotations.
• Maintain knowledge of current and developing technology.
• Perform other duties and projects as assigned.
• Understand and comply with all provisions of the Safety in the Workplace policy.

Minimum Requirements

• Typically requires a bachelor's degree in related field and a minimum of 4 years of related experience
• A combination of post-high school education, job related certification and related experience equivalent to 5 years may be considered in lieu of minimum requirements

Preferred Requirements

• Bachelor’s Degree in Computer Science, Information Technology or related field

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

• Must be self-motivated and display significant attention to detail. Having the ability to manipulate small pieces of data with accuracy and focus is a crucial skill for this role.
• Ability to communicate effectively, work well with the team, and exercise sound judgement
• Strong technical problem-solving skills and customer service skills.

• Mid-level knowledge of SQL Server database software and architecture including experience in Database Administration, System Analysis and Administration, Design, Development & Support of MS SQL Server 2012, 2014, 2016, 2019 in Production, Development & Replication Environments.
• Proficient experience in upgrading and migrating to SQL Server 2012/2014/2016/2019
• Working knowledge of High-Availability (HA) solutions including: Always On Availability Groups (AOAG), traditional Microsoft clustering, Database mirroring, and Log Shipping.

• Functioning knowledge of Transparent Data Encryption (TDE).
• Thorough understanding of Linux and Windows operating systems and administration.
• Experience with SSRS, SSIS, SSAS, Machine Learning, T-SQL and PowerShell.
• Good understanding of relational database management systems, utilities, and tools, physical database design, and database architecture.
• Good organizational skills; experience participating in projects and balancing responsibilities of multiple projects.
• Intermediate understanding of network concepts and protocols.
• Able to work with developers with regard to normalization of data structures and optimization of SQL queries.
• Understanding of application program development, code management, and database change management.
• Able to implement and maintain security controls in the database; understands operating system security controls.
