Fishermen’s Village is looking to hire a responsible and friendly custodian to maintain and protect our facilities inside and out! Our custodians must work carefully, consistently, and thoroughly to clean the premises, prevent vandalism, and ensure every visitor and guest contact is a pleasant one. The ideal candidate will be experienced with commercial building upkeep, sanitizing protocols, and the safe use of commercial cleaning chemicals and equipment. They will have great physical endurance to cover a large space, a keen eye for detail, adaptive problem solving skills, and proactive diligence with all maintenance and cleaning duties. They will enjoy working independently, following directions, and also jointly as part of a cohesive team.
Hiring for Shifts: 7:00am - 3:30pm, and 3pm-11pm
Responsibilities
- Ensure public and interior spaces are maintained daily by taking out all trash, tidying furniture, dusting and cleansing all surfaces, paying special attention to high-traffic and high-touch points.
- Collect Merchant trash and cardboard on a time schedule.
- Work discretely, consistently, independently, and pro-actively seeking out new tasks as they arise.
- Follow supervisor instruction for special tasks and schedules.
- Perform heavy cleaning duties, including sweeping, mopping, vacuuming, scrubbing—requiring reaching, lifting, pulling, climbing, and walking.
- Wash and sanitize toilets, sinks and showers and restock disposables (e.g. soap, toilet paper, paper towels).
- Wipe mirrors and windows; polish handles, fixtures, spindles, and other fine details.
- Walk and work in consistent and speedy “rounds” on a continuous basis, scouting for new cleaning and maintenance tasks throughout shift until the shift is completed.
- Perform minor repairs.
- Report maintenance needs and concerns, including anticipated needs, immediately to supervisor or appropriate staff to create new work orders.
- Follow procedures for the operation, use, and storage of equipment, tools, and cleansing chemicals to prevent damage to floors or surfaces.
- Use, maintain and clean equipment such as buffers, carpet shampooers, vacuums, and other tools.
- Keep organized, safe, and orderly workspaces.
- Collaborate and work with team members and contract workers to accomplish goals.
- Manage inventory of cleaning supplies.
- Maintain a professional, clean, and tidy appearance.
Skills
- Previous experience as custodian, janitor or in a similar role
- Attention to detail and conscientiousness
- Very good physical condition and strength,
- Team player and the ability to work independently as well as within a team setting.
- A self-starter that needs little to no prompting or supervision to complete daily assigned and new or unforeseen tasks.
- Ability to interact with staff and visitors while remaining professional, kind, and courteous.
Requirements:
- Prolonged periods standing and walking.
- Must be able to lift, bend, stoop, climb, reach, and lift up to, 50 pounds at a time.
- Comfortable squatting, twisting, bending, and kneeling while using tools and performing maintenance tasks
- Ability to understand and follow verbal and written instructions
- Weekdays, Weekends, and Holiday a must.
