What are the responsibilities and job description for the Fitness Trainer position at Fit To Recover?
Introduction and Mission Statement
This is a salaried position at Fit to Recover employed for 40hrs per week. There may be weeks when additional time may be required of the candidate including special weekend events put on by Fit to Recover, marketing opportunities, and community engagement.
Our Mission
Our mission is to provide a safe place for people in recovery from substance use disorders to connect through fitness, nutrition, creative arts and community service.
Fit To Recover seeks to bring balance to our lives through our four pillars: Nutrition, Community Service, Creative Arts, and Fitness. We accomplish this through group cooking classes, artistic endeavors, service outreach, and sports & exercise.
Our overall well-being is measured by progress toward individually set goals. Whether in the gym, the kitchen, the studio, or the community, we are mutually-supportive and stare down our challenges, together.
Our History
Fit To Recover was started by Ian Acker as a small group of friends who wanted to support each other in sobriety through exercise and fellowship. They’d meet each Saturday to run the hills of Sugarhouse Park and share their dreams and fears of life in recovery. The group grew in size, and together they got stronger. Soon, an entire community formed around the group's passions in what we call our 4 Pillars: exercise, nutrition, creative expression and community service.
Fit To Recover opened in January 2015. Today, more than 450 people in recovery each week pass through our doors. They attend fitness classes, learn how to write poetry, lay down tracks in the audio studio, cook and eat healthy food together, empower women in early recovery, and reach out in service to others in need. Mostly though, they’re friends who hold each other up and hold each other accountable.
