Job Description
Support Workers make a positive difference in someone's life. You will be making a real change to the lives of the people you provide support for and their community of friends and family.
Support Worker s also make a difference to client's lives’ by leading a fuller, more compassionate life.
Duties include :
- Assisting with meal preparation
- Household chores, administering medication.
- Accessing community facilities, going shopping, meeting friends.
- Assisting with doctors’ visits, or providing general emotional support
- Personal Care, including bathing, dressing, Feeding and assistance with ambulation.
What are the qualities of a good Support Worker?
Respectful. As a person ages and their independence and mental capacities reduce, it's easy to fall into the trap of being patronizing.
Ask questions and watch for facial or body language.
- Empathetic. Empathy is one of the most important qualities any Support Worker needs to have.
- Reliable with the ability to motivate others to be as independent as they possibly can within the confines of their physical and / or emotional state.
- Patient with the ability to motivate others.
- Joyful disposition with ability to build clients’ self-esteem and self-confidence.
- Practical understand the limitations of others.
- Observant with the ability to encourage his or her clients / residents / patients to be as active as possible.
