SUMMARY/OBJECTIVE
The International Center at Flagler’s College’s mission is to promote global awareness and drive global engagement by fostering opportunities, supporting students and faculty, and diversifying our academic community and offerings. The International Center is responsible for all international programming at Flagler College. Its major components include study abroad, international partnerships and agreements, and international student services.
Under the leadership of the Director of the International Center, the Assistant Director will work primarily on the International Student Services functions of the broader office.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
- Serve as one of the Designated School Officials (DSO) for F-1 and Alternate Responsible Officers (ARO) for J-1 students and scholars at Flagler College
- Advise international students and scholars on issues related to immigration status, employment, and basic academic matters that affect immigration status
- Process immigration documents for program extensions, Optional Practical Training, 24-month STEM extensions, changes of status, transfers, and a variety of other documents required to help students maintain F-1 status.
- Responsible for assisting J-1 exchange visitors, scholars, and students maintain their immigration status.
- Coordinate campus cultural programming to advance internationalization for domestic students as well as international students and scholars.
- Communicate directly with representatives of U. S. government agencies domestically and abroad as appropriate.
- Maintain student records and program information in SEVIS.
- Manage the pre-arrival communication process for newly admitted international students.
- Assist with planning and implementing an inclusive international student and scholar orientation.
- Plan and coordinate workshops throughout the academic year to acculturate international students.
- Assist students in adjusting to life at Flagler College including advising on applications for social security numbers, Florida driver’s licenses and identity cards, and other adaptation necessities.
- Resolve problems and handle sensitive issues that require tact and confidentiality.
- Serve as advisor of the International Student Club
- Provide training and guidance to campus partners on immigration regulations, international student advisement, employment, and intercultural education concerns.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
Qualifications
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
- Bachelor’s Degree
- Experience working in a field related to international education and/or international student services.
- US Citizenship or U.S. Permanent Residency
- Demonstrated diversity and inclusion experience, with sensitivity to cultural differences.
- Strong verbal and written communication skills
- A desire to train participate in work related to immigration, including SEVIS and F-1 and J-1 visa regulations.
- Ability to travel as needed.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
- Experience with SEVIS, F-1 and/or J-1 immigration systems and work, including previous work as an ARO or DSO
- Prior experience in higher education, especially work related to student services
- Familiarity with Terra Dotta or similar software systems
- Experience living and working abroad.
- Second language proficiency
- Extensive travel background
WORKING CONDITIONS AND PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:
- Sedentary work: Exerting up to 10 pounds of force occasionally and/or negligible amount of force frequently to lift, carry, push, pull or otherwise move objects. Sedentary work involved sitting most of the time and occasionally walking and standing.
- Climbing, walking, crouching, repetitive motions, and ability to communicate appropriately with students/colleagues.
- Occasional hours outside the normal of college workday to attend events.
- Required to travel regularly as assigned.
- This position is generally an office related position.
