THE CENTER

An integral part of our mission and practice is to develop partnerships with families and community organizations that prepare and empower children to embrace learning, a strong sense of self, and social connection as essential tools for growth and achievement.


Overall Responsibility

The Communications and Volunteer Manager in collaboration with the Development Director works to raise the profile of Flance Early Learning Center in the general community as well as in the corporate and business communities. The Communications and Volunteer Manager is integral in the effort to bring new support and awareness of Flance programs to new audiences.


Interactions

  • Volunteer Attraction and Management - includes managing the auxiliary group, Friends of Flance, as well as reaching out to new corporate partners with the intention of attracting new corporate support for Flance.
  • Assists with training and oversight of volunteers as well as ensuring coordination of activities.
  • Interacts daily with everyone at Flance Center including staff, in particular the Executive, Development and Program Directors, volunteers, board members, donors, funders, and corporate representatives.

Implementation

  • Manages marketing and communication internally and externally for Flance, creating eent flyers, annual report, newsletters, periodic eblasts, website, digital signage, social media, marketing materials, etc.). These efforts support the development and program departments and the overall effort to raise Flance's profile in the business and education communities.
  • In collaboration with Development Director, maintains various listings of clients, staff, volunteers and donors.
  • Takes photos at events and in the classroom; maintains photo files.

Event Planning and Implementation

  • Assists the Development Director with special events. i.e - "Feast for Flance" dine out events - approximately three evenings per year. In the short term, help conceive and produce Flance's 10th Anniversary event in June 2024.
  • Plan and coordinate student/partner/corporate volunteer events and activities.
  • Support Family Liaison with family-focused events such as ABC Day, FAM Fest, Drop and Shop, and Flancegiving, These may total 2-5 Saturday's per year.

Skills and Attributes

The ideal candidate will be mature, creative, energetic, organized, accountable and comfortable interacting with and leading people. The position requires an individual with the ability to exercise good judgment in a variety of situations; who has the ability to prioritize tasks and activities to accomplish goals; and will have flexibility to attend evening and/or weekend meetings and events. Other critical skills include:


  • Proven writer and communicator
  • Excellent interpersonal skills, time management and organizational skills
  • Creative graphics experience, particularly with Canva, Photoshop and other graphics programs, as well as with email platforms like Constant Contact
  • Excellent computer skills (proficient with Excel, Word, Office 365)
  • Good photographer
  • Event planning and implementation experience
  • Willingness to help with clerical duties occasionally, including mailings and donor database management
  • Professional appearance and demeanor
  • Able to multi-task in a sometimes-chaotic environment
  • Desire to work around children, families and people of all ages
  • Ability to work flexible hours, including limited evenings and weekends

Environmental Factors

Indoor, primarily works in an office. Noise and activity levels can be high; staff, visitors, families and children come and go at all times. May have to drop work in order to attend to a crisis. Position requires, COVID vaccination, health screen, annual Family Safety Registry background check and fingerprinting. Flance Center is a busy, unique environment. Employees are expected to participate fully in the life of the Center. All employees must be able to lift 25 lbs. in the event of an evacuation or emergency.


Education/Experience

  • Bachelor's Degree in Communications or related field
  • Excellent skills in graphics and Microsoft Office products
  • Minimum two years of communication, volunteer management and/or event planning experience
  • Previous experience in non-profit environment preferred
